I'd tell him NO. nice and politely. If I ask permission from my school for something, and they give me the green light, then it's set in stone. It's incredibly unfair for them to screw you around like this. And I'd (again, very politely, while smiling) make sure to tell them this. As long as you don't seem hostile or disrespectful, you can discuss anything with the higher-ups.
And if all else fails, rescind your agreement for the new contract, citing false promises! The fear alone should get their minds refocused! |

Exactly. And same for the issue about "hanging out" with the principal. You werent hired as a babysitter or a friend for him. Tell him you will come in if you have to but you will be in your office working. |

Wish that was the case! But in the general shambles that is my schools management, it was a genuine mistake that i was told i had vacation. I'm not entitled vacation now... i SHOULD be ... but that's a different story.
But I did just learn that the whole English management structure is changing as of tomorrow and the head is going to be a teacher who I'm very buddy with and has an open mind and a working brain. I'm off to see her now... buy her lunch and see if I can sort something out |

I thought if you resigned you got more time off? Take the plane ticket and go home for a couple of weeks.
Got any sick days left? |

Gave me a flutter of hope with that comment... but it's not in my contract. I'm not really complaining as such - because I have had more than my contracted amount of holiday days and there are plenty of other teachers holed up at school doing squat during the break too. I just don't wanna hang with the Principal. |

update for anyone that's interested in the 'Principle and I' saga....
it turns out the Principal is only at school next tuesday... and then I had this cryptic discussion with my supervisor...
Supervisor: So, just be in the P's office on Tuesday.
Me: and the other days?
S: Welllllll, you should come to school 9-5.
Me: Should??
S: Keep your phone on.
Me: You mean stay home, with my phone on??
S:If I were you I'd stay in town.
Me: So..... i don't have to come to school?
S: You should?
Me: Thank you |

So at 4pm on Friday I'm finally informed that I have 'free time' until 2 March.
High school rocks, that's all I can say (even if I've never seen my students as lazy as they've been this week). |

I know what you mean with the sudden "free time" that you get but this is what pisses me off. You find TODAY that you don't have to come until March 2nd, what kind of system is that? If you had wanted to travel somewhere out of the country then with this short notice you'd be paying through the teeth for a ticket. What a joke and I know cause my school was the same way. They should have been able to inform you back at the end of December that you could have this time off, instead they tell you now. This is one thing I'm NOT going to miss about high school life. |
