| So, any news on getting a license for those with an F5? |
Why bother? |
Protection under the law. |
What will the law do to an F5 doing a few hours of privates a week? Will the ministry of EDUCATION, that scary monster we all live in fear of, come get you? Because Im sure the tax boys are a bit busy with Hyundai and Lone Star and those gangnam apartment owners, and a bunch of other people scamming them out of more cash than you can ever hope to fathom.
Just do it and dont be a baby. If Immigration comes, show them your F5 and tell them to take a hike. Its not illegal under immigration law and the MoE doesnt send out its gestapo to catch people doing privates. |
For your information, Jinju, immi does issue a certificate that permits you to do privates and that you have to report the earnings from these privates to the tax office yourself. I've seen a copy of the certificate - I know several people who have applied and got this certificate.
I don't suppose they will deport you for doing a few privates, but there's nothing to stop them from throwing you in jail, punch you around a bit and fine you a hefty sum, since you will be treated like a Korean in every other aspect. |

Call them tomorrow and ask. I did. I was told F5s are allowed to do privates. End of story.
And no, I dont do privates. I am employed by 2 companies and teach their students at those companies. Something we are allowed to do without any stupid additional crap. Remember, as I was told BY IMMIGRATION "We [immigration] dont care about any job you take in Korea and we dont want to know". |

You had best get that in writing, jinju. If it ever comes to it, any lawmaker will take the word of a government official over yours. That, and if the law really isn't on your side (ie; you don't have all the proper documentation, licences, paperwork), then you will be in trouble.
Immigration is notoriously mixed-up, and depending on who you talk to and on what day, hour and second, the info garnered from them is suspect. Call 2 or 3 different offices, then get it in writing....Korean writing, stating that anything you are doing with your time is on the up and up. I seem to recall in another thread that you took one immi employee's word on it and ran. I wouldn't recommend doing this at all. |

| Jinju, when I said protection under the law, I really had unscrupulous hagwon owners in mind. |
