The heart of manners everywhere is consideration for other people. Those people who genuinely fall asleep on the subway and happen to let their head fall on your royal shoulder do not deserve an elbow in the ribs.
As for the line of people, I'm not sure what situation you're talking about here. When would you expect a whole line of people to get out of your way?

Reminds me of being at a concert here - No Doubt - a few years back. I was in the very front, but this little Korean gal beside me kept waving her arm right in my face. I pulled it down a few times, motioning that she was blocking my view... she ignored me.
So I just started licking her elbow. After a few seconds, she was very much out of my direct line of sight. I mean, how bad can an elbow be?

| It's unfortunately true. The 'next' generation is about as equally obtuse as their antecedents. It seems to be embedded in their DNA. And while they're blissfully unaware of the lack of civilty that they possess while bouncing off one another on the sidewalk, or doing the 'halmoni rush' onto the subway or the elevator, for those of us who come from cultures that place some value on personal space, this sort of behavior on a daily basis can degrade the quality of one's life. It's a rare day when I can walk from my apt to my work without having to take some evasive action. The job is good enough, but getting there and back is more ugly than it ought to be. Whatever learning is being transmitted from one generation to the next has nothing to do with courtesy. Only in Korea, you say? Thank the gods! |
