Yeah, I saw the same program. The Washington Post guy was pretty smart, street savvy. And yeah, he supported the thought that the press were feeling pretty guilty and put upon..........rightly so. I've had discussions with American friends as to the plight of American democracy (and yes, to all those who haven't even thought of it -- IT IS VERY unhealthy and precisely why America shouldn't be riding around the world pointing their finger.) We've come to the conclusion that one of the main reasons America has become so ill dominated by ill leadership is due to the lack of quality, challenging, dissenting voices and journalism. Democracy takes education, an informed population. And I don't mean about how to get better stock options or who's next on Oprah. Isn't happening in America.
But bravo to Colbert, he stood up there and traded punches...........strange how people say his career is now on a HUGE upswing. My bet is that at this time , this year, he will be working for some third rate network..............that's how America works at the moment.

Stephen Colbert's performance at the White House Correspondents Dinner nine days ago has already created a debate over politics, the press and humor. Now, a commercial rivalry has broken out over its rebroadcast.
On Wednesday, C-Span, the nonprofit network that first showed Mr. Colbert's speech, wrote letters to the video sites YouTube.com and ifilm.com, demanding that the clips of the speech be taken off their Web sites. The action was a first for C-Span, whose prime-time schedule tends to feature events like Congressional hearings on auto fuel-economy standards. |
It looks like CSpan raised a fuss. It is really rather sad- after all, everyone was ignoring the Colbert part until sites like YouTube.com carried it. |

Let's try to find that FUNNY things he said...
I think my favorite bit was the "rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic...that's a terrible metaphor. ....If anything, they're rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenberg."
