It's too bad most of you weren't here in '02 to watch a country which doesn't care about the World Cup suddenly get excited about it only because it was about beating another (read: any) other country. It's a whole lot like middle school girls getting excited about an in-class spelling bee championship. And less important.

Well put. I don't hate Korea at all; it's just personally irritating to me when people who know or care nothing about soccer use it as an excuse to yell like barking seals about their country. I'm equally annoyed when people at home do this.

Perfect.

Yet, for some reason, the sensitive folk and "apologists" round here just don't get that.

I would hate to see England win, they won one World Cup 40 years ago and they are still bringing that up to this day as proof that they are the greatest football team in the world. Get over it for crying out loud. The English media are a bunch of arrogant berks who believe that they truly have the greatest team and whenever they lose they choose one player to crucify, there is always one player at fault and they are vilified in the press. One player does not make a team and if they were all doing their jobs then they should be able to make up for the misgivings on their teammates part.

Their fans annoy me too, not the true dedicated ones who support their team no matter what but the lager louts with the expansive guts who walk around swilling beer and chanting "Ingerland" and then look for any opportunity to cause trouble. They really give English football and football in general a bad image so the sooner they are sent home where they can't possibly cause any more trouble the better. I don't for one moment believe that all English fans are like this but the unsavoury element just makes me despise them and hope they lose.

Sorry for ranting Smile

Sounds like celtic sour grapes to me. This stereotypical, lager swilling Ingerlund fan is proud of 66 and proud of the legacy that England has given the world as the spiritual home of football.

First thing is ,there should not be so many teams here....32 is way too much...you know NZ qualified when there was a 24 allowance?32 teams...the wholw thing just drags on...

I made some perhaps harsh comments about Korea, but,if Korea doesn't wake up ...

Look,how can I explain it.

At the start of each fresh season what does every fan say...."Come on,make me dream!!!!!!"A soccer fan suffers all sorts of hopes and humiliation thruoug a season period, they begin the season with the cathphrase "make me dream"

This explains club footie enough, national football......the teams are put together at the last moment...look,honestly,if Korea play well and win thru genuinness,I'll eat my own burnt rice hat.I swear^^

Don't get me wrong, its merely that I find any middle of the road philosophy intensely distasteful,..

I voted for Brazil, Czech Republic is a distant 2nd. I'm a big U.S. fan, including MLS, and will be in my gear at the Korean match viewings. MLS is up and coming, building new stadiums and attracting new fans. U.S. soccer is still basically in it's infancy.

I guess the next thread would be to pick a cinderella.

I can't believe Toronto is getting a MLS team. Just can't picture too many people supporting it.

South Koreans were optimistic about their own team's chances too with 42 percent saying they would reach the last four in Germany.

whose your MLS team? i like DC. hopefully Philly gets a team in 2007.

i guess everyone wants the US to lose, cuz if the US advances further than some of the more advanced soccer nations....guess that would be an embarassment to those countries.

Of course you would. You're probably Scottish or some other kind of bitter Celt.

The one thing I hate about the MLS is its fakeness. Its like they create franchises from thin air. Its league building from the top. In Europe the clubs were formed at the local level and made their way up a long ladder to whetever the division they play in. They are REAL clubs with real tradition, even if they were formed 10 years ago and managed to make it up to the top division. This is why I could never support any MLS club. These are fake teams.

Yea franchises piss me off as well. They have no real identity and can't associat with the community. I support Watford in England, grew up supporting thing and know they'll always be there until the day I die, unlike an MLS team which might up and leave just because they don't get enough fans in a city.
