All that heavy discipline, taperecorder espionage stuff sounds waay too exhausting to me. You'll never win the war...My new phase is this: tune into the kids. Relax. Try ro enjoy lessons. Just about everything can become a joke or a game.
I f I had to spend a whole year fighting and forcing kids to respect me and learn phrasal verbs parrot fashion, like a well drilled army, I'd commit suicide, because the experience would be as stressful for me as it was for them.
The best advice is give up, you can't really win, because the korean system just doesn't back you up. Try to enjoy teaching, and the kids will too.

Tape recording is actually working for you. It's not espinoage. If you are trying to build a proffesional teaching portfolio it is actually highly reccomended to tape record yourself with students and to video tape yourself as well.

It's record keeping. The kids also get a kick out of listening to themselves. Especially if you play them a tape from three months past because they can see how well they are doing.

It really is win win.
