Well, things are looking rough for the Taeguk Warriors. Suisse and them 4 points each going into their match, and I can't see Togo beating France: that's five points for the bottlers, I reckon.

Going to be tense to the last in Group G.

Took a turn for the worse it seems. The Swiss have just defeated Togo 2-0. Basically if France beats Togo by 2 or more goals, Korea will have to beat the Swiss to advance to the second round.
They'll have to earn it and if they can do it, more power to them.

The way I see it, tonight's result doesn't really matter; Korea always needed a reult against the Swiss (unless Togo had trounced them...always unlikely) Looking on the bright side, it puts a lot more pressure on the French, which is never a bad thing!

Yeah, tonight's game was one of the more enjoyable games to watch. Good flowing football, and the boy Frei was pretty tasty.

If Korea and France end with 4 points each, what does it go to, goals for or goal differential, or Korea goes based on the fact they beat France... (sorry for the ignorance)

Goal difference, then goals scored, then head-to-head match up, then if things are still level, lots are drawn.

Ummm...Korea didn't beat France. They drew 1-1.
The first tie breaker is Goal differential. The second tie breaker is goals for.

*Edit* Sorry, Indytrucks beat me to it...

As it stands France's goal differential is 0. (2 draws)
Korea is +1.
Switzerland is +2.

If France beats Togo by 2 or more goals and Korea and Switzerland draw then France and Switzerland advance. Korea would be out.

If France loses (hee hee) then Korea and Switzerland advance.

If France wins by 1 goal (but end up with more total goals than Korea like a 4-3 win or something bizarre like that) and Switzerland and Korea draw with Korea scoring very little then France and Switzerland would advance.

Basically if Korea wins they are in. If they lose they are out likely. If they draw and France beats Togo by 2, they are out.

Something like that. If you are a Korea fan, cheer your @ss off for Togo.
Clear as mud eh?

Yikes, lots drawn for a further tiebreaker. I thought that's how it was done. Shocked

France have what they think is the second goal. Patrick Viera gets his head to a powerful cross and the ball looks to be a good 30 centimeters over the line when Lee Woon-Jae beats it out.

A 'good' 30 cm over the line (meaning more than 30). Laughing Even with my limited knowledge of soccer I know that the entire ball has to be over for the goal to count. 30 cm's my ass. Even if they had a chance to review the goal I would assume that it would take irrefutable evidence to overturn it. There's no way there was irrefutable evidence. Plus, the camera angle would have to be a heck of a lot better than it was if there would be replays available in the future. I guess they'd have to clip little cameras onto the underside of the crossbars.

Is it me or do there seem to be a lot of similar world cup threads kicking around?

It was a goal. The mystifying thing is that no French player called it. And once again South Korea are the beneficiaries of a dodgy refereeing decision. Just a straight win against 11 men without questionable calls would be gratifying for most Koreans and other supporters.

But they do have a knack of pulling off surprises so a draw against Switzerland is a real possibility - a win, doubtful but you never can tell of course - and then it'll all be on goal difference cos 3 teams will have 5 points.

What happens if France beat Togo 2~1? Do France and SK have a rematch or do they just draw straws? Laughing

I think most Koreans could care less how they won. I really don't think they see any questionable stuff as being questionable at all.

However, the 'goal' in question was not clear either way. To see it either way shows a clear bias one way or the other.

What type of bias? Latitudinal?

No bias needed. That ball was over the line clearly. Just watch the replay.
Mind you this all happened very fast so I don't blame the referee.
It was the wrong call though and more good luck for Korea. Good luck is fickle though so we'll see how they fare against the Swiss.

Who had some luck themselves with that unawarded penalty. I think both were bad calls--how confused does that make me? Shocked

Well, a guaranteed goal is just that. a penalty is not that. When you get outshot by a factor of 3, I'd be pretty happy with a tie.
I don't see many Koreans or Korean fans saying "we were robbed!"
All I hear is a lot of *whew*

I can just about picture France winning 1-0 for most of the game and then Togo, who've nothing to play for, getting a freakish equalizer. I'm predicting a high-drama finish. I'm predicting Korea taking the lead and then conceding an equalizer late on, but both sides going through, while France go out in humiliating fashion.
