I'm sorry Spinoza... maybe 'peddling conversation' in Korea is what you do. But for myself, who has worked at universities in Korea for 4 years, working about a little over half a year and 10-15 hours a week... I don't think there are many better jobs out there for avid tennis players like myself. It certainly isn't a poor situation to be in.

"The analogy stands. That one can play, coach tennis does not automatically entail that one's opinion is worth more than a guy whose only Tennis experience is sitting on his arse and watching telly." -Spinoza

I get you... I guess what you're saying is that you know more than the guy who does all of those things... simply because you are Spinoza... a know it all. And so; however, little you do, is worth more because it is you who did it. Sounds like someone is trying to overcompensate for his lack of appearance or something, by trying to appear intellectually superior to everyone else. That's understandable, we saw your photo on "How hot are you?".

Making a comment about someone's appearance (unlikely you'll find a proper university lecturer doing that, as opposed to some twit with a BA in Micky Mouse Studies from the University of Eastern Saskatchewan) is a sure-fire way to win an argument about tennis isn't it? You've really proved that Federer is the best player of all time there and shown superior tennis knowledge.

Judging by your bitter, abusive denunciations of vapid offal, I'm assuming you don't get sarcasm, so I shall, unusually, lower myself to the level of my audience.

Your university job is an absolute joke. It's not even a university. Are you at SNU, Korea Uni, Hongik? No, well shut up, then. None of your imput goes towards students' career prospects; rather it's all a gimmick to say that Min-Ji has played past-tense bingo with some butcherer of the English language from, like, eastern Saskatchewan, and stuff? I've met numerous uni teachers and nearly all of them have been drunks, total misfits. The fact that you've more time off to me means you've more time for drinking 2-cent booze, smoking 2 packs of cigs per day and sitting in your 5-pyeong apartment playing with yourself (on the Playstation, you understand).

Which leads me to my next extremely juvenile point, since it is you and your bum-chum Merlyn who wish to turn a debate about tennis into an exchange of personal insults......you've got a smaller 고추 than me, I can assure you. Don't really care what some sweaty male tennis player off the internet thinks about my photos (the views of my girlfriend taking precedence there), but even if I did care, I guarantee your little white pecker is a laughing stock. I just know it. Let's flop each other on Jongno Street and see who's got the biggest nob - then, and only then, will we see who knows the most about tennis and who's the best out of Federer and Sampras, you stupid anal maggot. Let's see who's got the prettiest girlfriend. Let's see who's got the better knowledge of obscure 60s bands. Let's see who's bedded more birds. Judging by your anger at losing a tennis debate online, I'm guessing your only sexual encounter is with your right hand, assuming it hasn't got a tennis racquet in it. Let's see who's got the wealthiest mother. That'll be sure to settle this. You don't have enough merit to your miserable, scabrous little life to lick my toilet clean or eat scraps from my garbage. I'd HONESTLY save the life of a filthy piece of homeless trash on the street before the life of a uni teacher in Korea.

The point still stands....does it follow that an amateur soccer player knows more about soccer than a chap who's never played since high school yet has studied the game for years on end? Of course not. Only an absolute moron with a moronic view would argue so. Go back to your tiny little pad and eat some ramyeon, Professor.

Here are the results of a "Talk Tennis Warehouse" Poll: "Who Is the Best Tennis Player Ever?"

Federer 53 43.09%
Sampras 57 46.34%
Agassi 9 7.32%
Lendl 6 4.88%
Edberg 6 4.88%
McEnroe 13 10.57%
Wilander 3 2.44%
Borg 14 11.38%
Connors 6 4.88%
(167 tennis fans voted...Of course, if Federer keeps winning at the same rate he figures to soon overtake Sampras in this type of poll...)

Holy Spinoza, your true colors come out. A loser of great proportions. Don't make it like you responded to the earlier posts academically. You never even backed up your original claim when you said, ahh let's see, most greats say Sampras is the best. I've told you they don't, but you haven't even responded to it. Personal insults, which they weren't even that serious, so what if you're not that handsome, often occur when people refuse to settle points logically. Okay, let me rephrase the argument. All the greats say Federer is better than Sampras, ajstew says they are. I also say he is. You say he isn't. It is just you you tool and maybe others who haven't watched tennis since 1999. You're a real class act Spinoza. Next time, comment on something you have a remote understanding of.

(see bold)

I didn't say that.

Anyway, you're never going to convince me I'm not handsome. You've more chance of converting Ariel Sharon to Islam. As far as I'm concerned, I'm the most handsome guy that's ever existed. Delusional? Probably. But am I bothered? Nope. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that liverless maggots like you and Stewpot are allowed to exist.

You wrote above. You didn't say? No?

Anyway, Mac doesn't agree and I'm not sure who the other greats are that you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure they don't agree either.
You just sound so full of hate with your last comment. I feel sorry for the people that have to work around you and be around you.

Yes, I did say that. But I didn't say "most greats say Sampras is the best", you window-licker.

Sampras just IS the best. It's a scientific fact. I've said that Fed is absolutely awesome, yet that's apparently not good enough. Do they have freedom of speech in your country, or is mad George III still in power?

I wasn't quoting you the first time above. But when you say all the greats agree with you, that's pretty much what you're saying isn't it. No one's questioning you when you say that Federer is awesome. I just took you to task that the other greats agree that Sampras is superior. That's really the end of the discussion unless you can show some evidence where Mac and the others say this. Were you not watching and listening to Wimbledon these past two weeks? I know I was and I know what Mac said.

I'm sorry Spinoza.
So sorry to have called you out on a possible reason for why you always have to be right about everything. And I never said you were a hidious looking fellow. I don't know what girls think of you. I was just saying that you may have been trying to overcompensate for something else you are lacking, and I stand by it, because of your inability to see that you stand on a much weaker platform than I do in terms of tennis knowledge, and this seems to demonstrate that there may be something seriously wrong with the current state of your mind's health. At any rate, my statement had nothing to do with winning an argument about who is the best player, it just questioned the platform from which you rained down your comments from. At any rate, you showed no willingness to have an intelligent debate about the merits of each player's game, you just stated in your all-knowingness that you knew you were right. Now that is a sad basis for an argument.

Now you speak of bitterness:

"Judging by your bitter, abusive denunciations of vapid offal, I'm assuming you don't get sarcasm, so I shall, unusually, lower myself to the level of my audience."

Demonstrate something bitter I said, beyond your thinking that I said you were overcompensating for something, and you will find nothing of the sort.

And what is this?:

"Your university job is an absolute joke. The fact that you've more time off to me means you've more time for drinking 2-cent booze, smoking 2 packs of cigs per day and sitting in your 5-pyeong apartment playing with yourself (on the Playstation, you understand)."

Do you read what you write? How can anyone speak like this and believe it is okay? You should be ashamed. But looking at the individual points of the paragraph, it's pretty clear you don't have a university job, or you work at a uni-hagwon, because if you had any knowledge of university jobs in Korea, you'd know that there are many better positions than the ones you mentioned above, although I'm certainly not slamming those who work at them. So no need for me to shut up... I have one of the better jobs in universities. Moving on though... I don't know where this Saskatchewan stuff is coming from? It's probably a great place to live though. And sure... I play tennis 4 times a week so that equals that I drink and smoke everyday? If I wanted to play 4 times a week, I couldn't live with that lifestyle. Use your common sense man.

And then we get this nonsense:

"Which leads me to my next extremely juvenile point, since it is you and your bum-chum Merlyn who wish to turn a debate about tennis into an exchange of personal insults......you've got a smaller 고추 than me, I can assure you."

Sure pal.

"Don't really care what some sweaty male tennis player off the internet thinks about my photos (the views of my girlfriend taking precedence there), but even if I did care, I guarantee your little white pecker is a laughing stock. I'd HONESTLY save the life of a filthy piece of homeless trash on the street before the life of a uni teacher in Korea."

What the hell are you talking about? I don't think I've ever read such immature, hatred filled drivel. But I'm still trying to figure out how you see 'anger' in what I wrote. For most, it wouldn't be hard to get angry at what you write though... you know with the insults like, 'stupid anal magot' being thrown around, but this was always about tennis and where your point of view came from... nothing more. It's not a personal attack Mr. Philosopher.

And now to the crux of the whole letter:

"The point still stands....does it follow that an amateur soccer player knows more about soccer than a chap who's never played since high school yet has studied the game for years on end? Of course not. Only an absolute moron with a moronic view would argue so. Go back to your tiny little pad and eat some ramyeon, Professor."

Your point never stood because you failed to closely read what I wrote. I didn't say I only taught a university course on the history and development of the game of tennis (and do you think they'd hire people off the street to do that.. people with no knowledge of the game?) ... I didn't say I only coached.... I didn't say I only played the game very often for 16 years at a high level... I didn't say I only watched 16 years of tennis on tv and read countless interviews to improve my knowledge of the game. I said that I've done ALL of the above, which puts me in a better position to speak on the subject than a person who has only done 1 or 2 of the above. That is what you have failed to understand. So go ahead and insist that you are right, based on the 1-2 critertia listed above that you can claim as your own basis to say what you do. But it'd be absurd and illogical to do it... and that's pretty easy for anyone to see.

Oh, and lastly. Geez... you think at some point in my earlier writings that I started boasting about working at a university. I just said it was a good place for a person who loves tennis to work. And I said that in defense to your comment about why I would come to Korea to teach rather than work professionally in the tennis field... which was an obvious attempt by yourself, to undermine my knowledge of the game. But that's not important... just know, that I don't brag about being a Professor.

Blimey, that was long and boring. I'm afraid I had to skim. A reflection of your dull and sullen personality I assume.

But anyway, you claim to know so much about tennis, yet you were the first to get out the cheap shots. You said my disagreement with you was in part due to my overcompensating, not for "something", but for the way I look, based on photos in the "hot" thread, which was "understandable". Jeez man, stick to playing tennis, since debate isn't your area. I'm pretty confident about the way I look - that's why I posted the photos - so don't get me wrong, I'm not personally offended for one second. But, saying something like that to someone just isn't very nice. You should know that. That you think it's okay to criticize someone's appearance quite randomly, or that someone's view or actions can be explained away by their appearance, is perhaps indicative of having lived in Korea for too long. It's certainly indicative of being a complete idiot! And, more importantly, it CERTAINLY isn't the best way to win an argument in area supposedly of your expertise. Rather, it shows anger, being wound up by someone. Didn't take much effort on my part. It's really weak stuff. You're just an absolutely lamentable mistake of nature, frankly, and a simple, mean-spirited poltroon. Same goes for Merlyn too, who in response to Vanislander, who only said "If you feel you must argue about it, you don't know it" replied by calling him an idiot! VI's comment wasn't even directed at you I don't think, could've been aimed at both sides, yet you jumped on him with sad vitriol! Oh no! A different opinion to mine! Help mummy! That's because you're a precociously boorish contemptible moron and a retrograde half-wit.

The point stands. Sampras is the best tennis player ever. That's my opinion and I genuinely believe it. You disagree? Okay fellas, let's get over it. The point stands....that someone has played tennis, been actively involved in tennis more than me, it doesn't follow that your view is worth anything in the least, like a man who's played electric guitar for 20 years doesn't automatically know more about Rock and Roll than a chap who's never picked up a guitar.

The point stands....that someone has played tennis, been actively involved in tennis more than me, it doesn't follow that your view is worth anything in the least, like a man who's played electric guitar for 20 years doesn't automatically know more about Rock and Roll than a chap who's never picked up a guitar

The earlier half-reference to your looks must have struck a deep nerve there Spinoza. That you can't seem to get past it is a joke and it certainly in no way equals the crap that comes out of your mouth. Do you speak in this manner with the people you know? Gees, that's an awful thought.
Even in your last post when you try to clear things up a bit, you sound like a complete dick. A deep nerve indeed.

The comment to VanIslander was well made. A common saying that that says ""If you feel you must argue about it, you don't know it" is one I've never heard, and has no basis in truth what-so-ever. To simply post such a line in the middle of a debate, with no truth to it at all is an idiotic thing to do in any universe. I guess every argument in the world is made by people who know nothing on the topic. I guess every academic debate is like that. I guess every scientist who criticises another is like that. I guess every lawyer who tries to make a case is like that. Now, taking the line and defending it, now don't you seem like the idiot as well. If you agree with moronic statements, that's what you must be. That's an idiot. It wasn't thrown out there like you do for the sake of hatred. It was well within reason.

What ajstew said in his earlier comment made a lot of sense. I suggest you read it again. Skimming over won't do. What's "boring", is reading the negativity that you can't help but post, not only on this thread but every other thread you pollute, be it rugby or what have you. You sound just full of venom. Is that really the person you want to be?

You say Sampras is the greatest. And I've seen you've retracted your comments on how the greats agree with you. Good job. Oh yeah, and the point doesn't stand anymore. The person who as played more than you, who has taken the time to study the game more than you and who has followed the game more than you does in fact have a better opinion on the game all things being equal to the man who only follows the game with casual interest, yourself. That, added with the fact, the greats don't agree with you either, means your opinion isn't as good. Anyone with a right mind would and should agree. But fair enough, you think Sampras is better.

Well said Merlyn... and Spinoza be careful what you say. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, you shouldn't say it here. You posted your pic and can't hide behind anominity.

I just would like to thank Spinoza for your pm (private message) the other day. That was a really nice gesture on your part to say that you had really over-reacted in your response to this thread and were sorry for being disrespectful. Thanks again for that one Spinny. Clearly what you had said was uncalled for and many others have agreed. Thanks to everyone else, as well, for your support. When people blast away sometimes, it shouldn't just be overlooked. I'm glad you have come to terms with that as well Spinoza. There are no hard feelings. Hope to see you on this board again. Cheers mate.
