Albums? DVDs? Humphf!

The first two 45's I bought were: Return to Sender by the King himself...and Patches by the IMMORTAL Dickey Lee (from when music was still music and teen-age tragedy was just a turn of the dial away:

"Down by the river that flows by the coal yards
Stands wooden houses with shutters torn down
There lives a girl everybody calls Patches
Patches my darling of Old Shanty town

We plan to marry when June brought the summer
I couldn't wait to make Patches my bride
Now I don't see how that ever can happen
My folks say No, and my heart breaks inside."

I'll not print the rest. Philistines wouldn't appreciate the passion.

My first real album album? Surrealistic Pillow: Jefferson Airplane. I don't count the Lesley Gore album someone gave me. Albums weren't albums then.

(Lackadaisical)
I dated a woman named Amanda during college, and I'm inclined to believe that a particular song played a role, however slight, in my initial attraction to her.

To this very day, on the slight chance I were to come across a woman named Holyann, I'd be tempted to bust out an absurd lyric such as Ooh the nights you came to me / A blue jean lady so eager to be free...

First Album(meaning real record):

Rush- "Permanent Waves".

My uncle gave it to me when I was 9 years old. He was only 8 years older than me(still is). I loved listening to his Rush, ACDC, Billy Squire, and Foreigner albums.
For all the kids on the forum, here's how we used to copy them back in the day: You'd put the record on and have a tape recorder aimed at the speaker. Then, you'd have to be real quiet while you recorded the whole album. That was some real quality hi-fi!

Anyway, my uncle was only 17, so still living at home with my grandparents. They had an ongoing argument that involved my grandparents refusing to allow my uncle to have a Black Sabbath album in the house. At the time, I had no idea what Black Sabbath was, but I totally wanted to because it sounded cool. Later on in life, I discovered it was farking cool!

Did anyone ever own an eight track tape?

When I was a kid, I saved my allowance and asked my mom to take me to TG&Y(similar to KMart in the day). I layed down my dosh for ACDC's "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You".
Great one!

The thing with eight tracks is, if it didn't fit just right on two sides, they would cut off in the middle of the song on the first side, switch over and continue the song right where it left off. Crazy!

Eight track? That's just crazy talk, like UFOs or Santa.

First album ever purchased- They Might Be Giants, Flood

"Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night"

Still enjoy it, but once a year now.

Strange, I remember that Jam (All Mod Cons) album as one of my favorites in high school, 20 years ago. It belonged to my older brother.
I still like some of those old songs.

I think the first cassette I owned was Talking Heads "Speaking in Tongues" or was it Sprinsteen's "The River" ? or was it something by the Who or Doors? I don't really recall actually.

I remember one of my other older brothers used to play the Monks "Bad Habits" quite a bit.

After all these years "In the Crowd" from that album remains on my top 5 of all time list.

Why'd they change it? I guess people just liked it better that way.

Tommy; by The Who
Still my favorite album

But I am not so old that I bought it on first release. I remember I got it at the time of "Hotel California" release; my second album.

I had many, as an eight track was the tune player in my Firebird.

My first two CDs. Still have 'em, too.

My brother got me this in '82. My first LP.

I bought this on on vinyl two years later; $11.99 at Sam The Record Man.
