Downtempo non-vocal stuff.
To remind me I am in Asia, I play traditional Chinese, Korean or Japanese music, as long as it's not the kind with singing in it; classical guitar music, as long as it doesn't have violins in it; chopin or bach, as long as it's just piano; air, as long as they don't sing; some Iraqi dude who plays the ude; and my favourite, GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR. Love their stuff--so wierd and sad and all the songs are suuuuuper long so it's good dozing and reading music.

Well worth a look at isolating (not noise canceling) in ear monitors like those of the Shure range.

While they take a week or so to get used to, after that they are very comfortable.

They work by blocking our about 90% of ambient sound. This allows you to easily hear your music at very low listening levels, even in very noisy environments. Now your ears will no longer suffer, and as they are very good quality your ears will, in fact, love you Smile

The foam is the same as that used in earplugs. First you compress it, then put it in your ear, and it expands to fill the canal, blocking sound. There are three other styles of cup that fit, each with multiple sizes. Some are more isolating than the foam.

Pictured below are the top of the range E500, which have beautiful sound. When inserted the yellow is not visible.
