Do they dive and fake injuries like in soccer?
If I wanted to watch a sport where the never stop running I would watch a marathon. |

You obviously know nothing about hockey.
In ice hockey you have to wear a stackhat to play, real men don't wear *beep* like that. |
It's actually pretty simple, if you don't wear a helmet at the speed the game moves now, you will die.
If you dont wear elbow pads, you will shatter your elbow
You wear knee pads because shots are closd to 100 mph.
You skate what 3 or 4 times as fast as you run, believe this is a fun sport, but it is pretty dangerous, wether played in North America or Europe.
Hockey is played on ice. |

Real hockey is the fastest team sport in the world.
Also, real hockey is the number one sport at the Winter Olympics. How does field hockey rank?? |

- Any sport compromised by the use of intensive protective gear isn't really a sport anymore but a show.
- Real hockey started out as a gentleman's game for the rich, hence its exclusiveness. Rules have been added to ensure safety.
- Ice Hookee isn't really a taxing sport since it is the ice that makes the game and puck faster.
Anybody else wanna convince me that hockey is not a real sport? |

Can we just convince you you're not very smart?
Ever played hockey smart guy? I love when English folk rag on hockey having never played the game... lots of logic there. Hockey is one of the most mentally and physcially taxing sports out there. Not opinion, just fact. |

Hey, i'm not gonna talk about field hockey, i dont know the details about the game, but to me hockey is a game you play on ice. Field Hockey is a real sport, i'll give you that, but all sports are different and some countries excel at different sports. But, don't say hockey is not a real sport, because that is very insulting to some people.
Hockey is very fast, yes the skates on the ice help you go faster, but believe me, a man in peak physical cheap is pretty worthless on the ice after giving a full 100% effort for 1 minute. It's pretty much like interval running. 1 minutes or less on the ice, then 2-3 minutes sitting. if you play three 20 minute periods stoptime, you pretty much need 3 lines left to have any energy whatsoever at the end of the game.
I have a feeling you don't have a thorough understanding of the game of hockey, it used to be played without helmets about 20 years ago, but advances in skating technology, coaching, etc etc have sped up the game and it is very unsafe to play to play without equipment wether you allow contact or not (ther is always plenty of accidental contact, because your moving so fast.
I'm not in the mood to argue which one is the real hockey, but i can at least tell you that in Canada, USA, and Europe hockey is a sport you play on ice.
You can call it a spectacle if you want, but hockey is the only true winter team sport, in the past you really needed it to be cold to have ice available to play this sport.
Go to www.google.com and type hockey and see what comes up. |

I too will not argue too much about which is better since I've only had 1 season of hockey (field) under my belt. I know full well about the basics of ice hockey, in fact it resembles a lot of how hockey developed (no protection, playing surfaces got faster etc).
But certain things need to be explained to people like yourself and many others who still think hockey is a sport played on ice, that's ice hockey.
I didn't say that ice hockey wasn't a real sport, but do people really come to watch the game because so-and-so could balance on one leg or do they go for the violence and broken glasses? I do admit that it entertaining is that how people should enjoy their sports?

Hockey is played on ice, and I don't think you have a through understanding of this sport, as far as I can tell, Field Hockey at the international level (the big games between Pakistan, India and countries like that) are still played on grass. Field Hockey to the best of my knowledge is played with crooked hooks as well, it is just not a very popular game here in Canada, since it is just a summer sport (we'd rather be on the ice in the winter). Field Hockey is also mostly played by females.
Sometimes we will also play Floor Hockey here in North America, we basically played the exact same rules as hockey (on ice) except that we wear no equipment (the game is much slower then on ice). The physical toll is the same, except you workout different leg muscles.
Thw way the game is played now, violence is not huge, there still are fights, but they dont happen as much as they used too. I do admit, I am a huge fan of the fights however, but will still watch and play hockey when there are no fights.
I've been playing hockey since the age of 3, and consider myself a hockey player and it will always be part of my life, so you will never change my opinion about it.
ANd I will tell you again, to anyone in Canada, USA, Europe and Russia, hockey is a sport played on ice, no matter what you think of it.
Field Hockey is a sport played by females here, on grass, with crooked hooks as sticks. It is also played by souther hemisphere countries, such as India, Australia and Pakistan. India has consistently been a dominant figure in the sport as well.
Officially, they are both called hockey, I researched this, ha ha. Hockey people add field and ice to distinguish them. However to anyone in Canada, USA, Russia, and Europe if you talk about hockey they will think about it being played on ice.
In Pakistan, India, and Australia mention hockey and I gather they think about a sport played on grass or artificial surfaces.

You may have played for a long time but obviously you don't anything about the history of hockey despite all the supporting information that I've given you.
Next you'll be telling me that Basketball came from America. |

So why isn't field hockey a popular sport at the Summer Olympics? Its not even on the radar. While I might no be the biggest soccer fan at least I can aknowledge it is the most popular sport in the world. Many people play field hockey but no one is watching!
Field hockey has so much participation because it is popular in poor countries with large populations like India. Which is ironically the worst sports nation on the face of the planet. |
