Snowy,
You can get one-way flights for about 600k to CHC, but that will route you via Tokyo on Air NZ.

You could just get a one-flight to BKK about (450k) and then pick up a ticket from there.

Airfares out of Korea are outrageously expensive.

Others have posted about Air Asia if you want to go to Bangkok, Phuket, most of SE Asia. You can fly into Macau or Hong Kong and take a ferry to Macau (I have never done it but I have read it is fairly easy with no visas required) or more directly Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have not checked but destinations like KL, Macau and HK may not be as booked up as Bangkok.

A flight into Singapore will hook you into the discount airline Tiger Airways system.
I have flown with both Air Asia and Tiger. They are the very definition of no frills, but they get the job done.

You can book a confirmed reservation with Thai Airways via their website, no payment required. In fact a print out of this reservation looks just the same as a paid ticket. I have been told it is the same with Singapore Airlines website. This meets the requirements of both outbound airline clerks and Thai immigration.

Good info passport.... I may be flying into BKK one way in May at the end of my contract for some long-term travel, and have heard various rumours regarding boarding a flight heading to BKK on a one-way ticket. Apparently some of the check in desks are not happy to let you on board with a one way ticket, as if you are refused entry by Thai immigration (not likely from what I've heard) then the airline carrier has to return you to departure point. I was thinking of maybe trying to get my Thai visa here in Korea before I leave, as this should avoid this problem. My other option, which I'm growing keener and keener on by the day, is sailing to Qingdao, China and travelling overland to Yunnan, then entering Myanmar. Then somehow making my way into Thailand, overland if possible.
