If the Korean gov't gets serious about controlling piracy, these sites will get shut down, but I really don't think much will happen to the registered users, or the owner of the site, for that matter. It's not like Korea to arrest a bunch of their own at the insistence of US companies.

One has to wonder how Korean companies like Haansoft feel about the issue. Hangul Word Perfect (HWP) must be one of the most pirated programs here in Korea. Maybe that's what's in the box; a CD-R with the serial number written in marker across the face.

Creating websites that host files may serve to keep Koreans off the networks, such as Torrent. This way, the ISPs here won't get those lists from the US insisting they take action against Korean people.

If KT can harass the downloaders not using popage.co.kr, then it will drive more business to that site. Simple business. Gotta love the corrupt and oligopolistic nature of Korean business. They claim to be one of the most technically advanced nations in the world, but it's still a den of back-alley corruption and good-ol-boy manipulation.

Actually, it's not. The gov't sweeps their computers of illegal software (wink wink) every year. It is the FOREIGN sowftware like Office and Windows that are time and again found to be illegal copies. Korean software like HanWord and Dr.Ahn's is almost always legally boought... gotta support the local businesses you know.

I wouldn't use Office or Windows even if it was free.
