Use the tax code, as I've said a dozen times. Tax pollution and not production/consumption. Create public policy that directs firms toward efficiency. Don't scare them away.
Anyway, we have to continue this next week. Chinese New Years and all here in Singapore, I've got better things to see and do.
I'd say argue amongst yourselves, but, we all know that isn't going to happen. |

So you feel that an Exxon-Mobil funded think tank's conclusions need not be approached with great caution? Did you read the Union of Concerned Scientists' paper on it?

Last post, this is addicting.
I did not read the paper on it. I will later. But I don't think that funding in and of itself negates the research done. Does government funding to research mean that that research will automatically further government interests?
I agree we have to question sources, but we cannot make BIAS! the end of all discussions. There are some real questions about this whole thing that are not being answered. The enviromental industry has a long, rich history of dishonesty and exaggeration. So does business. Where does that leave us?
I'll leave you with one quote.
This 'double ethical bind' we frequently find ourselves in cannot be solved by any formula. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest."
