MANILA AND PANGASINAN. The most famous place I went to in Pangasinan was the town of Manaoag, which is about an hour south of Baguio. There's a famous cathedral there, Our Lady of Manaoag, where I think the Virgin's supposed to have appeared.

I hope to make it to Baguio and the Hundred Islands (Alaminos) before I leave later this month and maybe even down to Subic and to Cagayan. Some people say Subic's the nicest city in Luzon. There's a ton of Americans there and actually, it stayed apart of the US till '58 I think, whereas the rest of the Phils was turned over in '46 (July 4th if you want to impress your friends, and easy to remember).

I've heard Baguio was nice until the Korean influx that started in 2005. They say now it's dirty and polluted (surprise that Koreans would do that!). Oh well, I guess I'll see . . . Also there's a cool beach, I've heard that's about an hour from Alaminos. It has sand not quite as white as Boracay, but nobody goes there so the water is a really clean. I like how the travel agent lady described the sand: "golden-white" I guess as opposed to the pure white of Boracay. It's called Bolinao.

I went to Baguio is 2001, and I found it really dirty and polluted. Later I was told if I'd explored the surrounding area, that is what you are suppose to do. However, it rained everyday I was there, and I couldn't really do anything. Confused

I'd like to go there for my next vacation; I'd really like to find some great snorkeling spots. But an older Canadian couple, who I met in Thailand, warned me. They said that if you think that if you think that Thailand is bad with sex tourism, wait until you get to the Philippines; it's worse. In the Philippines, someone was surprised that the old Canadian man brought his wife. He said, "Yep, I decided to take a ham sandwich to a banquet."

Only true if you are heading to the sex holiday spots (Mindoro or Angeles city as examples) and if you are looking for it.

Seek and ye shall find.

Get away from Luzon and metro Manila and there is a whole country to explore, without the sex tourism - 7007 islands with more snorkeling than you could imagine.

Where did that Canadian couple go? I only know of Angeles City and Manila that you would see that, and even in Manila, you really have to go to the right areas to seek it out. (Oh yeah, and Sabang in Mindoro). Those three areas.

When I was in Thailand, it was pretty much in my face everywhere.

Here in the Philippines, you really have to seek it out.

A lot of people seem to gravitate directly towards the sex areas, quite like going to the redlight district of Tijuana and associating that with all of Tijuana or all of Mexico.

I'm gonna guess that Canadian couple took a cheap flight from Thailand to Clark Airport (Angeles City), stayed there, then decided to go to Sabang in Mindoro for diving. Those are the two largest areas to see sex tourism, anywhere outside of those two spots (and Manila), and you are really unlikely to see sex tourism at all.

Most tourism is diving-related, and the nightlife is pretty much non-existant around it. Just divers drinking a few beers telling diving stories. In the other cities (Cebu, Davao, etc.), you are most likely to see a foreigner walking around the mall with his wife and kids more than see some rampant sex tourism scene.
