If she's fit and into you then go for it. But be aware that, if she's very fit, she will have drunken Itaewon-types badgering her constantly. That would kind of do my head in.

Well that would obviously be a fractor but it wouldn't worry me too much, i mean thats part of the territory and i'd imagine she would be used to dealing with situations like that. I'm not really an overly insecure/jealous kinda guy.

Well, I've dated a bargirl, and some of you may have noticed (in another thread) that it didn't turn out very well.

I have never really been a jealous / insecure kind of guy before, but let me tell you, the bar will change that if you start to really care for her. Think of the odds of her meeting another guy that she might like. She spends HOURS in a BAR ALMOST EVERYDAY! Even with the best intentions, the temptation and the situation makes a serious relationship with a bargirl incredibly difficult and likely to fail. Of course, it's possible it could work, but those odds are just wicked terrible.

If you just want to have fun, go for it. If you get attached, I hope you find enough value in having a learning experience that it will make the whole thing worthwhile.

No, I prefer men that's just the way it is, a barmaid OR a ladyboy just won't do.

here's the problem...
so you met this girl at a bar that you go to.
Now if you just want to bone. Then by all means do it. But over time your probably going to get attached and then you're either that loser who comes to the bar every night to watch his girl bartend or you pretty much have to stop going there as a local hang out. Yeah its cool to go there every once in a while but not on a regular deal. This type of situation really only works out if you happen to work in a bar of your own, and you can have your own set of drunk hoes hanging all over you until you get off work.

If its that young looking one with the small eyes and seems to be always smiling....
I would have to say "fat chance" based on the fact that I played 2 games of pool with her boyfriend, who is an MP at YongSan. It was cool, I won 2 mugs of beer off him Wink

and I dated her friend once back in the day....a real <BeEp>.....

But, then again, that was around December, 2005....you might have a chance Wink

17-15, close call here guys. Some of you need to read this thread from the beginning. It's NOT the barmaid from pollys kettlehouse, although i wouldn't pass that up, sadly, she's married to an american guy.

You're actually basing your decision on the poll?

On the off chance this is more than a fanciful interpretation of some Itaewon tart playing you for a fool, that's sad.

Yeah, that is certainly probable. But still, weren't we all at one time young, gullible and good-natured like that? (I don't mean specifically with regard to Itaewon, you'll find an Itaewon in most any Asian country.) I mean long before we became such world-weary, crusty old cynics? I sure like to think so. So seeing threads like this one... makes me kinda nostalgic & teary-eyed. Sad / Smile

Horny you mean? Sure.

But I have to admit I have met rawiri and he is nothing if not an Itaewon-dong veteran. If he is posing questions like this on the board, he is either bored, taking the piss, on the piss, or a temporary Darwinian escapee.

Some of the posts on this topic are edging ever closer to the infamous "Dave's ESL Cafe Double Standard"

If anyone so much as mentions teachers as a group in a negative way (scruffy, alcohol probelms, unqualified etc etc) there are many posters who get all up in arms about it and say "I'm not like that" or "You cant judge a group of people based on what they do due to a bad experience with 1 individual"

Yet here we are discussing girls working in Itaewon bars and many are pre-judging!!

If you drink, then why wouldn't you date a bar maid. She is just doing her job. She isn't a hooker anymore than a guy who is a bar tender who wants to date a gal.

Exactly.

BUT then I tried to prove your point and failed. Sure, that's just one person, one example, and doesn't disprove what we'd idealistically like to believe. However, it's also one MORE person, one MORE example. Stereotypes and prejudice suck, but they do serve a purpose. They help you see what you should watch out for, but you shouldn't make EXPECTATIONS based on them. Let individuals prove themselves to be better than what people might prejudge them to be.

I should admit that my situation was riskier than the OP's -- so take my tainted thoughts on this with a grain of salt, OP. And I should also admit that I could be totally wrong about everything! I'm still in the process of finding out how much this girl was not worthy of trust. She admits only one minor indiscretion, while a little bird has told me of a huge one. Who to believe? And that may be the bigger problem -- it's SO difficult to have TRUST in these relationships. That's why it's cool as long as you just don't invest too much (emotionally AND financially Laughing ).

There does seem to be a bit of a double standard at work here. I know guys who "dated" upwards of 100 girls through university alone. If someone wants to play the field a bit i'm not going to stop them, what would piss me off is if you both have said you want to date each other exclusively and she is lying.

P.S It's a dead heat, so the next vote wins.
