No, I haven't, but women's anti-perspirants have a fairly strong scent, so wouldn't they work as deodorants as well, even if sweating/preventing sweating wasn't a concern?
I was given two "Secret" brand anti-perspirant... sticks or solids or whatever you call them, and I could tell right away they were for women (pretty colour, pretty label). They were on the shopping list and my maid doesn't know there are separate brands for men & women. Anyway, they do have noticeable scent to them and even have names of the particular scent printed on the label. Unless we're talking about some major B.O., wouldn't they serve the purpose? |

Antiperspirants that block your sweat glands are terribly unhealthy and are linked to cancer. There's a reason you sweat: your body needs to cool down. So, if you are sweating a lot then either 1) you have a glandular disorder...my uni roommate had this problem and compensated by showering 4-5 times a day. 2) You have a problem in your diet.
Drink more water. Sweat smells because of what comes with it (trace amounts of urea, nitrates and such). Get that stuff flushed out of your body through your urine.
Shower like the locals do...it really does make a big difference. |
Would you care to share what medical journal you read this in? Or, is it just one of things you 'know'? I'm not saying it's not true, but the research is just not there yet, so you should hardly be sounding so definitive in your stance.

It's not that I'm looking for a scent (in fact, I am quite sensitive to most of them) but I'm not keen on the aluminum in antiperspirants. Thanks for the help though. |

This begs to be made fun of, somehow, some way, but I just don't have the heart for it ATM... |

To protect an area that looses heat fast and easily. Think of the survival position if you are stuck in water. You keep your arms in and your legs up. You pits, nether regions, and head all loose heat faster and therefore have retained hair.
To the OP, shaving your pits won't fully get rid of the need for deodorant, otherwise us women wouldn't need it.

I'd always heard it had to do with pheromones. I'd think they'd be least likely places to lose body heat from. It's skin to skin contact between your arms and your sides. Your back can't trap any heat. I don't know about the hair on your head. The heat from your underarms makes pheromones more airborne or something and concentrates it. Helps you attract a mate. Otherwise why wouldn't kids have any hair there. They'd lose heat too.
May not be that appealing now but our animal instincts probably love a smelly, sweaty body. |

If they are exposed, they are the most likely places to loose heat because of the proximity of blood vessels to the surface. |

| Just found this old post I started. I shaved my underarm hair and I haven't looked back. Honestly, it's great! Now it's only my breath that stinks. |

Deodarent is too expensive over here.
Apparently westeners smell more because we've got so much underarm hair for stale sweat to cling to. So, is it wise to shave your underarm hair? I don't see how the unibrow problem could occur because that would entail your underarm hair growing across your chest.
Korean girls wouldn't even notice, right? Ultimately, this question is about which you prefer more...smelling good in Korea and having a Korean girlfriend or being massively weird in a Western country with an embarassed western girl. |
I shave my armpits, and have been for several years. I think it just looks nicer. Not fully shaved, mind you--I've tried that and it leaves nasty razor bumps. But I do shave it with a regular trimmer once it gets to 1cm or so. |

This has to be the invention of the century. How much hassle/money am I going to save myself over the rest of my life not buying deodorant?
Mods, this has to be a sticky. |

Why wouldn't they notice? Korean men DO have armpit hair. |

I don't know dude.. armpit hair is not the culprit for odor. If you've been going this whole time without deodorant, I'm going to go ahead and break it to you that you stink to high heaven and you've got yourself convinced that you smell like a rosebud. I've not met you that I know of, but I can confidently assume what I've said is true. Use deodorant. That's just gross. |

| I don't see why some of you guys don't ask your friends to mail you products you can't get in Korea. In return you can mail them stuff from Korea. |
