Nah, that's called "hiding time."

Well they didn't spam my e-mail address. I had an interview with the director. I have also emailed two of the teachers, and the only complaint they have had are the hours are a bit long. That is it.

The amount of preparation and photocopying is ridiculous. The director did not sell any books to the kids, so you will be photocopying over 100 pages of textbooks and worksheets every day.

I assume you've emailed Dave and Matt. Ask them what happened to Erik.

I've e-mailed matt and kirsty. Both didn't have too many bad things to say about the school other than the work load is a bit much. Matt didn't comment on the furnishings of the appartment like I asked though. This whole process just confuses me because I don't know who to trust. ha

I've just got an offer from BITS Language School in Seoul, and the contract is a lot more specific than the I received from Kids College, but who knows... no one has ever heard of that place. Could be called TeachFirst.. or something

Perhaps Dave and Erik have left the school. The only furnishing in the apartment is a bed. You will have to buy pots, pans, utensils, etc. You'd be lucky to get a chair or table.

If you want to sign up with this peach, go ahead.

Personally i'd go with BITS. In Korea, no news is the best news you can get when you're talking hagwons.

Boramae Kid's College Update: Before you complete your contract you can live with the director and her family!

My replacement arrives 3 days before I leave, and she's moving into my apartment, so I'll be staying at the principal's house with her and her family. That should be neat, living with a Korean family for a while.

Anyone who gives up their home before the job is finished is a TOOL.

Before you sign a labor contract

Talk to MORE THAN ONE of the foreign staff and ask POINTED AND SPECIFIC QUESTIONS (*when the boss is NOT listening over their shoulder).

1) What are the hours? (start time / stop time / breaks).

2) How many classes per day, week, month? NOT hour many hours per month. 30 classroom hours can mean anything from 1350 -1800 minutes per week standing in front of the class. The difference can be up to 7.5 HOURS in front of the class EACH WEEK.

3) Do they ALWAYS pay on time?

4) Do they pay at the end of your month or do they have a hold back period (5-10 days after your month end) to prevent runners? (no=red flag 1)

5) Do they really pay overtime or avoid it with creative book keeping?

6) Do you get credit for classes on the national holidays or do you get the day off but still have to work your 120 hours before you get overtime? (no=red flag 2)

7) Do they have national medical (with the little booklet)? (no=red flag 3)

( 8 ) Do they pay into pension? (no=red flag 4)

9) What about the holidays? 10 or more WORKING days? (legal requirement here) (no=red flag 5)

10) When and how do you get your holidays?

11) What extra stuff do you really have to do - mentioned or not in the contract.

12) Then consider the quality of life issues - things that are important to you that aren't mentioned here (housing, furnishings, THE BATHROOM, access to recreational facilities, shopping, banking).

13 Do they take additional deposits in addition to the delay in payday? (yes=red flag 6)

This is a wonderful guide on how to approach a contract. I've saved it as a document for further consultation, Thanks!
