As for Der Fuehrer, both Hite and I were goading you on. Obviously you missed that tactic. But it's no fun anymore because it's too darn easy. You grab at the bait faster than a half-starved catfish at dawn.

This is what Im getting at Steve, the fact that what you and Hite did was the same yet you had no problems maligning Hite for it. Again, what Im getting at is that you are the worst thing anyone can be: a hypocrite.

I saw a Korean today wearing a tan shirt. On the back was the Nazi logo of the Iron Eagle and the swastika. One like the picture here:

On the front of his shirt it said "Army". I confronted him and told him "That is a symbol of hatred and it is totally disgusting". He replied along with his friend in quite good English actually, "No, it is just fashion" (Well the Konglish pronounciation anyway). I told him if you wore such a shirt in any Western country he was likely to get his head knocked off. He sort of chuckled and said, "That's ok. Just fashion".

What I don't understand is the fascination with Hitler in this county. Hitler was allied with Imperial Japan which Koreans loath with justifiable reason. I have seen Hitler bars in this country, Hitler used in Korean textbooks to represent the "Hi" sound in Japanese (Hi-tler) and now this latest "fashion" abomination. I regret not asking him where he bought that so I could lodge a protest. Are some Koreans that ignorant or do they just not care? Am I being too sensitive since I am merely a foreigner in this country? You tell me...

Blame it on Yi Bom Seok. The guy went to Germany in the 1930's to study their youth groups. He then went to help organize the Chinese Nationalist Blue Shirts (a fascist group, essentially). Served as an intermediary between the Nazis and the Chinese Nationalists. Brought all this 'knowledge' to Korea to form a "nationalist" youth group and propagate the 단일민족 ideology, which was probably inspired by the German vlkisch movement.

jinju:

I didn't rake Octavius over the coals for his innuendos about fascism unless he implied that the current administration was operating in that regard. I knew he was getting your goat by his digs at you, however.

I criticized him for his views on issues. Big difference.

But I'll say one thing about Hite; he's erudite (new word, look it up) and discerning and I wouldn't hesitate to sit down to have a beer with him. He's also shown a sensitive side, which in your case is sorely lacking.
