Hence, Spam has become an icon of those days, which is why the price quadruples at this time of year, once you package it in a fancy box.

So can we expect SPAM to get a Korea Cultural Treasure Number from the government?

Yeah Baby! Three huge ass cans of sesame oil. And this is leaving in 2 months.

One of my 300 students did give me a 10 pack of pantyhose. The card was even cuter though. I saved it.

Oh well...

I didn't know that you got things at Chuseok, and was sitting in my apartment eating dinner, just about to go out to the local foreign bar, when my boss rings me up and tells me to come back to work as she wants to see me. I was thinking oh shit - does she want to fire me?

But then i rock in and get given an envelope of cash - 100,000 won!!!

I celebrated very well that night. As did the ethereal Wombat!

I did ok gift wise, though I'm still jealous of the teachers at my school who got gift boxes from the Body Shop...

My boss gave me underwear (assuring me that mine was the most expensice pair because it is "biggie size" Embarassed ), students gave me lots of dried fish and squid and also some shampoo and stuff. Yay! I like presents!

Dude, I got a ginseng drink. Work with me here.

I'll spot you some jerky that doesn't need a big box just to look impressive.

And then my boss and her husband came round on Sat morning to bring me Chuseok food. I got these yummy little fritters, rice biscuit things, those gross rice cakes with the pine needles, fruit, and some little rice cakes. I feel totally spoiled and rather pleased with myself! Bring on Christmas.

Songpyon sweetie.... Very Happy

I actually like them and even helped make some this year.....ouch my hands hurt and my children will be akin to godzilla since the ones I made were so damn ugly.

Got some fancy schmancy shampoo, the dreaded spam, a little $$, ddok, coffee, tea but didn't do as well this year...heavy sigh.....economy downturn dammit.

I want to see spam art.....that is just too cool to contemplate.

We got honey. A really nice gift set.

We were cheap though and re-Chuseoked my husband's uncle with it. Isn't that terrible? Razz

When Korea was still poor the company usually gave them underwares or sox because these were very usefull to old folks especially during the coming winter and then gift box sets of oils and seasoning were invented later.
Happy ChuSok and a wonderful holiday to all of you~

I also heard that it is customary for the son/daughter to use his/her first pay cheque of their first job at a big company (we're talking Samsung, LG type companies) to buy underwear for the parents. Imagine $1000 in underwear. Also, spam is also popular in Japan.
