If a dog is growling at you, don't look it in the eyes.

when i was in high school, my family lived up in the mountains above Boulder, CO. once i went door-to-door for something (quite the hike), and these two husky-type dogs barked at me and tried to protect their property. i didn't look them in the eyes, and they came closer and started nipping at my hands. i stared them down with a sort of menacing look and they backed off. maybe they were just being friendly in a barky and um-- on the offensive-- sort of way, but staring them down worked. |

Is it okay to carry a knife in case a dog attacks you? What is the best defence against an angry dog? Brick, wisdom, quiet words, knife frenzied drug induced power strike?
I'm a bit paranoid again but I'm also scared of dogs.
I spent about 20 minutes deciding my avatar and I finally chose this one:

A guy I knew once said he cut a dog's head off. Make you feel any better, macho-man?
A dog attacking you in Korea? Afraid of dogs? Let it also be known that in some cases a dog's considered private property and a person is able to use self-defense to protect it, thereby inflicting pain on you. |

If you see an aggressive dog, do not give him eye contact. Instead, look away and yawn. Yes, yawn. This is doggy talk for "you're the top dog, and I have no intention of challenging it." I saw i t on the telly. |
I agree with this. All those "Yeah, show the dog who's boss. You be da man, you hear me!" Yeah, bite me. You're not going to live with the frikken animal, you just want to get through the moment. The above is what they teach police officers. Saw that on the telly, too. |
