Can you guys recommend a good SSD and motherboard for an i5 build?
I'm looking into building a decent i5 machine, nothing too amazing, so I will probably skip any super amazing graphics cards...I don't game too much these days. What I will be doing is completing coursework and audio editing/production. So I would need quite a bit of ram (8GB at least?).
I would also assume it's better to order from danawa? My wife keeps insisting I take her cousin to Yongsan, but I'm not sure that's such a good idea after going back through this thread a bit. |

I've been to Yongsan many times to buy computer parts but those stores can't beat the prices on gmarket. And with only 2500 won delivery is super cheap. if you order before 1pm its there the next day. |

I still don't think SSD's are worth the asking price. Especially in Korea.
You can get single platter 320GB HDD's like the Seagate Momentus range which are really fast for about a fifth of the price of a 320GB SSD.
Use one of those for your OS and software, then a good 7200rpm 1.5TB for storage and you will not have any problems. |

Being something of a cheapskate (I'm a Yorkshireman, it's in my nature), I'm considering building said computer myself, despite my general lack of practical skills of any sort..
Any tips on what kind of specs i should be looking at?
i7?
1GB+ HD GPU?
RAM?
MoBo?
I'm a complete novice and would appreciate any suggestions! |

Will you have anyone helping you with this build? A first-time builder kind of needs someone knowledgeable around. There are some tricky moments....like installing the heatsink fan and English Windows.
You can get great value (enough value for even a Yorkshireman!) mid-range gaming PC's at Sung-in Plaza, Yongsan, starting from around 6-700,000.......you really couldn't do it for much less by building yourself.
I'd recommend getting a 700,000 gaming PC in Sung-in Plaza because it will probably handle the MMO you want to play easily. MMO's aren't so graphic intensive.
If you do feel it's underpowered later then you can get your hands dirty by upgrading the graphics card or CPU or RAM later......which will get you some experience with tinkering.
Also, there really is nothing to compare to gaming on a 27'' or more 1080p screen. Buying a nice new PC then pairing it with your 19'' 'Orion' LCD is a waste of time.
Put a good chunk of money (400,000 would do it) into a big new screen. |

I'm on a 24in..........
Also, I have an HD 5870, and on settings all on high, I get 34ish fps. Time for an upgrade....... |

If I decided to go down the ready-built road, what sort of specs could I expect for ~1 million Won? I'd probably be willing to go a bit higher for the right system..
As for building myself, I've owned PCs for years and have upgraded graphics cards, RAM, etc., and installed Windows quite a bit.. I'm perhaps not quite the absolute novice I made myself out to be, but I'm in no way knowledgeable about such things! A friend back in the UK would be on hand to talk me through anything taxing, though. |

If you want a no-hassle 1,000,000 won PC (excluding monitor) then the Sung-in Plaza 1 mill PC will probably be well nice. I haven't been for years because I've been building my own PC's since 2006.....and online parts are cheaper and just easier than going to Yongsan.
But if you want to get into the wonderful world of PC building and tinkering (overclocking! There's a massively fun hobby right there) then go ahead and tell us and we'll recommend parts to order and help you as much as possible in the build.......I totally recommend it. It's very very satisfying to build your own PC and to hear that beautiful single beep when it boots for the first time.....It sounds like you're ready to go for it. |

I have to admit I quite fancy having a bash at building one myself..
Any suggestions on the parts for a gaming PC? something in the region of 1 - 1.5 million Won? I wouldn't know where to start looking. |

I just upgraded my computer not long ago to give you an idea of prices (off top of my head, not exact numbers) and ideas for parts for under 1.5m. It plays all new games on high settings.
CPU: Intel 2500k 250,000w
Motherboard: Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 175,000w
Memory: 8gb g.skill PC3-12800 85,000w
Video: MSI 560 ti 290,000w
Hard disk: Samsung 128gb SSD 250,000w (2nd/3rd drive came from old system)
DVD combo drive: 20,000w
Case: Cooler master Storm Enforcer 130,000w
PSU: 700w (can't remember brand now) 100,000w |
