Great Thread. I wish someone would have started this when i was stressing about how this whole visa thing worked.

If your in the UK and need to gather ALL your paperwork to send off to Korea this is the plan of action:

*Go onto www.disclosurescotland.co.uk

*A basic disclosure is fine for your visa, you can apply online and it costs �23. You can also get the Standard disclosure but unless your school has actually asked for it, just go for the basic.

*You will get it in the mail within 2 weeks. Depends if you've had one done before. I had and got mine the same week.

*Once you have it in your hand go to your local solicitor and get them to stamp and sign it, along with your degree of course. Just tell them your sending it abroad for a job. It shouldn't cost much, some might do it for free.

*You then need to get your record check and degree to Milton Keynes where they will do their thing. They can't do ANYTHING until it's been stamped and signed by the solicitor. You can get it stamped at one of the solicitors across the street from the office if you go in person. You can send your things by mail. Check out the website.

Best way to send by mail is actually through the post office. Tell them your sending important documents and they should give you 1 envelope to send and a pre-paid envelope to put inside for the return of your things.

*Once you have got your Documents back, you've got your transcripts etc etc you can send your things off. The list is USUALLY:

original degree (notarized/apostilled)
Copy of passport info pages
2 sets of university transcripts
Record check (notarized/apostilled)

Copy of contract
Copy of resume

*SEND IT TO KOREA, WOOO!

*Within a few weeks you will get your Issuance number from your school or recruiter via email.

*Send all stuff off to the Korean Consulate in London

Section 21. Desired length of stay � 1 year
Section 23. Address in Korea � you can use the school�s address
Section 27. Who will pay for your trip � Employer
Section 31. Guarantor in Korea � the director of your school

Passport
2 Passport pics
Photocopy of record check, front and back
Photocopy of degree, front and back
1 set of sealed transcripts
ANOTHER health statement

REMEMBER TO PUT IN A PRE-PAID ENVELOPE!!!!!!!

Then thats it, you get your passport and your visa and YOUR DONE!

Hi everyone,

Thought I might as well reply to this thread than start a new one.

Does anyone know if an enhanced disclosure is accepted by Korean immigration? I'm teaching at a school in England at the moment and had to get one (employer paid for it). It's under 6 months old and I'm guessing it's more detailed than the basic disclosure BUT if Korean immigration aren't used to seeing an enhanced disclosure, they might refuse it??

Would be grateful for any views/advice on this.

I also have an enhanced disclosure check which I got for working at my local school, I was informed by epik that they accept either basic disclosure or subject access check, although they didn't explicitly say that they wouldn't accept an enhanced check. I figured I'd get a new basic disclosure because even though my enhanced check is valid at the moment it won't be at the time of entry into Korea which may or may not be an issue. Best to not mess around for �20

just a word of warning. basic disclosures are somehow deemed not as important by those who work up in glasgow. how else would you explain one taking 4 weeks + to come through. and i'm still waiting.

I should be getting my issuance number from my new employee next week

I understand I can go to Korean embassy or post off for my visa - I have a question about the time frame.. as I have a couple of holidays booked and will need my passport. Can I go to the embassy in London and get in done in a day ??


The biggest window I will have before flying out is about 4 days - so posting is not an option really.... I am close to London so going in twice is not an issue

in relation to the OP: from what i knew you HAD to attend the visa in person, to do the interview, you then leave the passport there and they can either post it, or you can pick it up a few days later if you live close enough to the smoke.
i didn't realise you could send it down having not done the interview..

my wife is also applying and for some reason they have asked for a medical form - anyone know where we can get this from ???

also - they didnt ask for a notarised criminal check - just the actual check...... strange
