Can't believe no one has mentioned X-COM: UFO Defense.

That, Diablo 2, and Angband (an old ASCII game based on Moria) are pretty much the only games I've played consistently for 5+ years.

Mech Commander was another fun one.

On the platform side, if you enjoy old NES games (can be played on free emulators on the PC), check out River City Ransom.

Monkey Islands were great as well.

Alas, who can forget how you could choose "you fight like a dairy farmer..." as one of your comebacks in game.

I remember leisure suit larry. I was only in elementary school. Sometimes i could answer the questions. Sometimes not. I loved ordering the condoms. "WHAT A PERVERT!!"
I liked lords of the realm as well. I still have the disc for lords of the realm 2.

Anyone remember the lost classic that is "Vikings: Kingdoms of England II". Classic conquer the medieval British Isles game. Multiplayer too, which led to many sleepless nights.

none of you guys played that other sierra game: hero quest? i think 3 was the best.

Hero's Quest was actually Quest for Glory, only the first one was called Heros Quest. I played all 5, and I think #4 was my favorite. The fifth installment was cool too. I liked those games because they were completely non-linear. I liked casting spells on the townfolk and watch them come after me with torches and pitchforks.

Hero's quest was my favorite too. I loved developing the character and playing stealing shiznit as the Thief! Wicked Wicked game...

Some of my favorites have been mentioned by others so I will leave them be. But one that has not been mentioned is Shadowrun. The Nintendo version was ok but the one that I am talking about was the Sega version. I remember renting that game like 6 or 7 times from blockbuster before I found a place to buy it. I was so excited when I heard that they were making a Shadowrun MMO. Then I found out it was just some crappy MMOFPS. I have the rom on my computer and my xbox and it still gets playing time.

I loved the D&D series on the C64 - Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds.

Another special mention has to be the original Tomb Raider on the PS1, with its sparse but beautiful music and huge locations. That was when my friends and I discovered the pleasures of pot and playstation, something I still count as one of life's special pleasures!

I've a long hard lesson for you today.

And I've a little TIP for you. Get the POINT?

You fight like a dairy farmer.

How appropiate. You fight like a cow.

Good times.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine...I still play it once in a while.
Another vote for the Quest for Glory Series
The original TR1-4 games. Great music, huge locations.
Xcomm
Falcon's Eye on BBS boards
King's Quest series
Where in the World is Carmen San Diego Series
Gabriel Knight Series
Psycho Pinball
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, a fun game with a great story line

Check out:

You'll find many older games. Also Google DosBox. It'll let you play old games.

I used to play the crap out of Space Harrier II for the Sega Genesis. Eventually I could beat it and gain so many extra men that they literally disappeared off the screen. I recently played it again (emulated) and beat it pretty easily, but with no where near as many extra lives.

They could make a super-awesome 3D version with the game technology around today.

Wing Comander 1, 2
Tie Fighter
Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory Series
Heroes of Might and Magic
Doom 2
X-Com

All of those were great games.

Scorched Earth, the tank game I didn't see on the list. I remember Aphogee made a lot of good games. Sierra was the best in terms of RPG on PC.
