Thanks for the posts, Thunndarr and Rocklee!
How do I go about getting an amp. Yongsan? Is it expensive? Is it just a small adaptor that goes between the mp3 phono socket and the earphone plug?
Is it strange for mp3 to have a weak amp? Is it sacrificed for some other benefit in the mp3 player? |
I got my amp from yongsan at the technobuilding. portable amps look something like these :
The one that I got looked a bit better and was also made in Japan. You might need to scan the place but the shop I bought my amp from is right at the back as you walk into the same floor as the station. Its not expensive, something like a $100 or less and it has a built in rechargable battery as its a portable.
Alternatively you can go to the headphone shop and ask them :

here's another :

| How difficult would it be to get either of these gadgets to work as a WiFi phone; i.e., connect to skype with a bluetooth headset? |

I was trying to remember the amp I got (haven't used it much since I bought a very decent sound system), but here it is :

I think it makes a difference especially if you have high powered headphones like the latest Senns. and KG. I'm just a buff for headphone crap |

| Personally, I find the main problem with the ipod touch is tha fact that you have to convert every video file into the format that it will play; this often is unsuccessful and time consuming. I think the archos will play loads of different formats, i think one came out that even plays xvid. |
I have converted hundreds of videos (from downloads to ripped dvds) to play in my touch. It is ridiculously easy and I have never had a problem doing it. Try using handbrake if you are having difficulties. It is idiot proof software that works well. |
i cant remember the program i tried, but thanks for the advice, although you do imply I'm an idiot, haha! |

just checked the handbrake website and it doesnt support xvid, in fact it has a very limited source format support. |

A very good free encoder is Gom Encoder (free til July anyway.) Converts to just about any format you'd like, very simple if you're using defaults, but also quite customizable if you want. |
