The ending reminded me of the feeling I had when I watched 2001 A Space Odyssey. Just kind of left me hanging, until I used some thought.

Sure it had an ending. It was when Lewelyn got shot dead. It was his story. When he died, the story ended. They just didn't show the story's end. Why didn't they show it? To be unconventional? Sure. Why did they feel the need to be unconventional? Because their story had a lame ending? No doubt. Nothing but a cheap trick to have the pretentious go, "Wow: They're Geniuses."

The story has two voices. Lewelyn's and Moss'. So, the story doesn't end when Lewelyn is shot.
It opens with Moss' narrative, and then fittingly it ends with it. I don't see that as a trick or genius.
You can go on all day about conventions and tricks, but I think you're making a lot of presumptions.

The whole movie runs its course with missing pieces, and I thought that added a lot to my viewing experience. It added to my imagination. Not showing Lewelyn's murder just added the 'all-powerful-evil' theme, IMO. It punctuated how everything was insignificant, and powerless compared to Chiguhr.

Trainspotting

Good god, I cant believe I didnt recognize this myself and I curse myself for not having been more observant. Llewelyns wife is played by Kelly McDonald a Scottish actress who also played a small (but conspicuous) role in..Trainspotting! (using wildly different and difficult accents). I learnt this today via this NCFOM review on Youtube.
