Different schools offer different things. I just viewed a contract that says if the employee quits before 3 months, they have to pay back the airfare. It also says that they have to complete the year to get the return ticket. This is reasonable. It doesn't say anything about what happens if they quit after the 3 month period.
It also says that if the school fires them, they don't have to pay back the airfare.
So I suppose the lesson here is that it's up to you to get everything spelled out in the contract before you sign it.
Just one final note. I don't agree with calling people who get sucked into these bad contracts "dummies", naive perhaps but not dummies. That's why there is such a push to hire newbies, they don't know what to look for and they are easily fooled.
As far as I'm concerned, that ad is mis-leading and false, and as long as schools and recruiters keep posting such ads, the complaints on this board will only continue ad infinitum.
