It just goes to show that there is some variety out there. Every job I've had here provided housing except for one, where they gave me 150.000 a month to stay in the yeogwan behind the school.

My housing was always decent, I may have had to do some cleaning when I arrived, but it was OK. I do not pretend to imply that because I got lucky, everyone else will also. A girl I worked with at my second job got stuck into a one room hole across the city, with broken plumbing, broken heating, and full of garbage and old clothes from previous teachers. She stuck it out for 2 months, and I have to hand it to her, I wouldn't have stayed that long.

This was at the same school where I had decent housing, the director was just too cheap to do anything about the girl's place. After the girl left and a new teacher finally came, he demanded a decent place to live. It took a couple of weeks, but the school did find him a house/apartment. He is married to a Korean girl, I'm not sure if that helped or not, but I just wanted to point out that you have to demand decent housing or you will not get it.

I refused to sign the contract until I had seen the house and was satisfied with it. The new teacher made sure that they found him a decent place.
The girl who left, well, it was her first job and she didn't really know what to do.

What if he was a computer nerd, who spend his free time cross dressing and watching gay porn in your living space?
Or what if he was the boss's nephew, who brought home his dates on a regular basis ?
Or what if your roomate was a practicing hooker and you had to endure the constant comings and goings of her clients?

My point being, that sometimes the conditions that they place us in are "unacceptable", and you have to ask for a change.

I think it is simple. I expect about 2.7-3.0 million in benefits and salary.
2.0 for pay
average 100,000 per month for ticket
200,000 per month severance
300,000-400,000 for housing
80,000 pension contribution

No provided housing than I get a subsidy.

Of course hagwons should provide it because if I had to set up my own place to come here for a year I would have stayed home.

Real jobs should offer an increased monthly salary as if you are here over a year you want independence but compensation.

2.0 pay minus rent or 1.8 pay minus rent- (isn't this what Pagoda is trying to do?)
