I also hate that sound of a Korean guy lecturing someone.. or whatever thats called. You know those times when some older Korean man (a bus driver for example) is rambling on and on in a seemingly one-sided conversation.. and some woman seems sucked into this 'yeah yeah' and having to listen and agree with him for 10 minutes.. |
I know exactly what you mean...for me it's not so much an old bus driver though, what's worse is when it's a 20-something guy lecturing/teaching a girl or somebody else on the ways of the world after his 3-week trip to Europe...
Edit: now that I think about it, that's annoying in any language. |

I was talking to some Japanese in Tokyo and they said Koreans sound like they are 'fighting' when they talk.. i.e. sound very aggressive... hit the nail on the head I thought.. Of course not all koreans sound like this.. but a lot do.. |

my roomate has had it said to her that English sounds like a dog barking.
What the hell kinda dogs do they have here in korea?
When it's talked softy and gently it's very nice. Unfortunately, if you people think that people talk abrasively in Seoul, come down to Busan and see the high life. It's a fact that busaners and people around here are known for their loud voices.
For the most part, it isn't poetry; it's not even a dirge; but it can be quite in your face NO DOUBT!
sometimes it sounds to me like a car reving; sometimes it sounds MORE like a dog barking than English ever would. |

I hate that thing Koreans sometimes do when they speak. Sounds like they are trying to swallow a razor blade, or trying to clear their throat, but it has some type of meaning, probably negative. I am sure you all have heard that. It sounds so unattractive, but usually it's a man I hear say it. |

It's done for emphasis. So it can be, but is not always, negative. You can do it too. When a Korean asks you if you speak their language, say "Anio, hangukmal CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL morugeseyo!" If you sound like you're coughing or choking when you say the "chal" part, so much the better, you're doing it properly. |
