SOmeone posted before that Christmas vacation doesnt have Korean subtitles but the person bought the DVD in Korea. I would love to rip that DVD hehe

It's sitting right here in my desk. The DVD case has both English and Korean printing on it. Lots of subtitle options including Korean. I'm pretty sure my co-teacher ordered it off Naver last year.

I`ll be sure to look for it. Thanks.

Why not any of the old TV Christmas specials? Rudolph, Frosty, and all the rest. I'm sure they're available on torrents these days.

That would be Chevy Chase, not Steve Martin.

They watch Home Alone during Christmas the way we watch A Christmas Carol or It's a Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story or Miracle on 34th Street. It's on EVERY year, several times.

My co-teacher doesn't want our elem 5th graders to have Korean subtitles for our movie that we'll watch this week and next. She said they won't attempt to listen to English if they're there. I recently showed Friends with English subtitles in my teachers class and more than half of them said they didn't understand at all.

SO, is there any impossibly easy but not incredibly childish Christmas-y movies out there? Or what can I say to my CT so that she'll be convinced watching with K subtitles is not a bad thing?

I think Friends (and similar shows) are hard for the kids because so much relies on understanding the verbal humour. Home Alone had always been great for them getting at least the gist. I didn't realise it was shoen so much here, good tip.

Mr. Bean is eternally popular in my middle school. The fact that he speaks so rarely makes it ideal.

I showed my middle school students Arthur's Perfect Christmas. The students are familar with this cartoon and enjoy it. It's uploaded on youtube. Here is the link to part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Cbp5TcOqw

If you do decide to show your students this I suggest letting each part of the movie finish streaming before you show it so it does not freeze up.

Cheers

DrOctagon was questioning my choice of movie...'twas that to which I was responding. For the record, the movie has gone down a treat - lots of physical humour in the movie, which seems to work well, and the verbal jokes have also played well with my higher level classes.

Yes, there are some Hallyuwood movies made for Christmas....

(1) Il Mare
(2) Happy Ero Christmas
(3) Christmas in August

If you find more Hallyuwood flicks with a Christmas theme, please suggest them as well! ^^
