I persuaded my girlfriend to go window-shopping at Yongsan Electronics Market with the mind that we would "take a look" for her next notebook. After about 30 minutes, I got a good idea of what she wanted, something she would've bought herself anyway, a pink sub-notebook from LG. I offered to pay $600 of the $900 cost if she'd give me her old notebook...

An odd way to get a Christmas present, maybe but foolproof.

No offense, because I know some guys just aren't good at gift-giving, but they can learn. I just don't think a guy should give techie things to a girlfriend or wife for Christmas, unless she specifically says that is what she would like for Christmas. Digital cameras, web cams, DVD sets, ipods, etc, are NOT romantic gifts. They should be given on any old day of the year and NOT Christmases or birthdays or Valentine's/White Day.

One of my friends back home just told me one guy she is dating gave her a boxed DVD set of the Twilight Zone. Then she bragged that it cost $300. Why would the guy even tell her how much it cost anyways? That seems tacky. Second of all, why should anyone care so much about the cost? Who cares if it was $300? It is still a tacky gift. I'd rather receive a cute pair of $10 earrings than a $300 DVD set. My friend is also dating this other guy who bought her a webcam. hahaha...That is even worse! But, maybe that is OK for her, since she told me she has always wanted a webcam. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'd rather have one single red rose for Christmas over a webcam. And, it is not always about cost. Some people just like to feel important and brag about cost. Like people who will wear big ugly Cs hanging from their ears just so they can say they have Chanel earrings. My old boss always wore Prada, Gucci, etc from Cheongdam, but her clothes were so ugly and tacky. But a Korean girl I worked with agreed with me and said but her clothes are Gucci, Prada, etc. Really, who cares? I'd rather wear something cheap and cute that doesn't LOOK cheap. Expensive, ugly and tacky things actually look cheap. But hey, it's all about those brands right??? Laughing And department stores here are a joke. Their stuff is usually not very good quality and way overpriced compared to other countries like Hong Kong and Singapore. I learned my lesson after I bought a pair of shoes at Lotte that were 230,000 won but started squeaking like a mouse with every step I took after 6 months. They are Sue Comma Bonnie shoes, supposedly top Korean designer shoes...hahaha... So many people told me those shoes were pretty, but the quality obviously isn't there. I've bought better quality shoes for way less.

My girlfriend got a nintendo DS and she got one for me too. We both got something that we knew for sure we wanted.

Anyways, we did Christmas stocking this year. So we could be suprised with some smaller, more thoughtful presents. Stockings is always the best part of Christmas.

So in her stocking I put the following: gourmet hot chocolate, some nice coffee, a new pair of gloves, a pair of earrings, sleep socks, some chocolates, and a some creams and soaps from the body shop.

Actually, I thougth this was a really good idea too.

A whole bunch of little things together makes a great gift. You really can't go wrong either. I mean, maybe they won't like 1 or 2 things but overall eveyrthings going to be ok. In addition someone uses a gift the more they will think of you. And with so many she probably thinks of you all the time <3. Not that she doesn't already Razz
