she's just another over opinionated fat chick who happens to have a TV show and a cult following. |
Fat chicks with opinions? gasp, what is the word coming to....
I understand disliking a tv show host because their interviewing style is crap. Plus Oprah has such a widespread influence, whatever she does that is crap is all the more sucky because you know so very many people believe her to be the cat's pajamas. MollyBloom's original post made sense, but it was followed by quite a lot of nonsensical animosity. You can hear the peasants lighting the torches and grabbing the pitchforks in the background.
(edit) But since most people don't know what lighting a torch or grabbing a pitchfork sounds like, noone is too worried.(edit) |

A "why I hate Oprah" thread?

I just watched an f-ed up show. There was this family: wife, husband and 2 teenage sons, all heroin addicts from Iowa. Oh, and there's a baby, the only one not on drugs. Oprah asks the husband, "Mike, did you envision this life for your family?"
Yeah Oprah. His dream was for everyone to be homeless, and high on smack all the time. Oprah says, "These people seem like a decent family except for the fact that they are drug addicts." Clapping from the audience after every clever phrase she makes.
I'm not condoning what the addicts are doing. Yeah, they f-ed up their lives and have serious problems, but do you need to exploit it?
Oh, how nice. She's going to offer contact information of residential treatment centers. "Do you want this for your family, Mike?"
"Oh yes, Oprah. I just want to make a point. We aren't bad people. We have tried to quit many times." Now all the addicts want to get off of the drug. They are cured.
Next: a pregnant mother addicted to heroin is on the show. 24 years old, 5 mo. pregnant with her 2nd child. And they show her shooting up, too.
It's nice she's trying to "help" but the questions she asks are so stupid. Asking a man if he wants that for his family? Asking the pregnant woman why she is crying? I mean, come on.
It doesn't matter who she has on the show or what the topic is...bleh. |
What would James Joyce think of Oprah? |
If Oprah recommended "Portrait of an Artist.." in her book club and it sold 5 million copies I bet James Joyce would be loving him some Oprah. |

Clearly Oprah Winfrey's achievements pale into significance when compared to a drudge like the Joshua Hirtles of this world. |

Her show is aimed at women. The ones who sometimes stay at home, sometimes hate men and love to watch tv.
It's not for guys, unless you are the type that likes to stand around the cooler chatting/gossiping and sharing secrets with the women. This is usually painful for guys...like watching touchy-feely shows. |

Not quite getting what you're driving at there, travel zen. You're being pretty vague too. Sometimes, I stay home, where my bed is. Sometimes I hate men, usually after being propositioned or alpha maled into silence in a conversation (one or more guys talking over you in a trivial argument- can't remember a woman doing that, though they may). I love to watch some TV. I do not like the Oprah Winfrey show and I have not sat through an entire episode since I was in high school.
And what's this about guys not sharing their feelings or gossiping? Maybe not with you, but I am forever hearing about the hopes and dreams and love lives and traumatic childhood experiences etc. from my guy friends. Come to think of it, most of them profess to hate talking about their feelings and gossiping, too. Yet they all pretty much do. I suspect they don't do this with other guys as a sort of status thing- can't be seen engaging in those unmanly behaviors.
There are tons of crappy tv personalities who get way too much influence and money for their talent. More startling revelations later. |

He died a few years ago.
I don't hate the woman, but do agree about all the whining the show seems to foster. I think back to the famous "car giveaway" episode where everyone in the audience was given a new car. Nice work since the audience was composed of people who had written to Oprah that they were in need of a new ride, and Oprah and General Motors (insert bankruptcy joke here) came through. This was reported at great lengh in the media at the time.
But the one question I never heard anyone ask (but still wonder about) was: There are this many people who write letters to Oprah saying they have a bad car and need a better one??
Give me a break! I've had bad, unreliable car experiences too. But I wouldn't even consider writing a letter to Oprah or anyone else about it. |

So you don't think these problems should be discussed? This is a way to get these topics across to an audience which is made up of a high proportion of people unlikely to spend time reading a great deal about current affairs. Her show is not my cup of tea, but she does a great job of educating the great unwashed masses. |

What? No, I didn't say anything of that sort. I said the manner in which Oprah speaks to her guests is sometimes rude and ridiculous. |

I truly wish the gentleman had stared at her blankly for a second and replied Yes. I wanted my entire family to become pimps and crackwhores. I was hoping we could all live short, painful, soul crushing lives and die alone, shunned and reviled by society. It makes me feel just giddy to know I have come so close to accomplishing this goal.
However, its a pretty sure bet if Oprah asks you on the show to chat about your most pathetic life problems, shes probably going to throw some of her scads of money at them. Given that, she can phrase her questions however she likes, and you better deliver with the heart rending answers or no soup for you. I dont know where no soup for you comes from, by the way, so Im sorry if I used it in the wrong context. |

What about her "favorite things" episode, where she trots out the tens of thousands of dollars worth of claptrap that she (and everyone in TV land) simply can't live without!?
Then the clueless or lying cow has the audacity to tell everyone they overspent these last few years, and were in denial, and now they have to get real with their finances. Yes, thanks to you Oprah! She even admitted she hasn't pumped her own gas since 1983! and has her maids change her sheets every 3 days. She must be sweaty. Oh, and ever notice how she is about 5 shades lighter with makeup? Why is she not called on that? Is she ashamed of her blackness? She is so full of shyt, and we can blame the way North American woman are in general (self centered men blamers) on Oprah.
Funny how her shows are typically about what is wrong with men, yet the audience is filled with woman who have the luxury of coming to watch a TV show while their husbands are working. |
I agree with this post 100% |
