It certainly does seem like everyone posting here dislikes everyone else, so I guess we can safely say the answer to the original question is yes.

Generally,
I like most everyone I meet, but I definatley don't respect most of them, especially the FT's I meet.
A lot of my friends I've met in Korea aren't as respectable as the ones I have in America.
Sure they are fun to be around with, go drinking, talk and enjoy, but they in my own personal experience a lot of them lack drive, integrity, and generally... social intelligence.
Maybe it's an age maturity thing... I don't know, but I'm actually younger than most of my friends so that begs some questions about Korea being like Neverland where boys never grow up. |

Did some dirty yank steal your girl? |
Don't forget yourself, the closeted homophobe.... |

Me a homophobe????....hell man...I like a good limp one across the nose every now and again...just ask your dad |

They must all be wearing Megadeth or AC/DC shirts. That would drive their Goku Respect meter into single-digit territory.
To influence the Goku Respect meter you must do the following:
Wear Ajosshi approved shiny silver suit = 50% increase
Go to tanning salon and or spa =20-30% increase
Cut the dreadlocks/get an ajosshi approved haircut =25%increase
Be a real teacher and not a 보조교사 =75-80% increase |

I'd be on a hatefest if my father in law said to me everytime he saw me 'kneel down in front of me biotch!' ...
AND I DID IT!
No-one of the septic persuasion - with their megadeath t-shirts, baseball cap and mullets has ever took a woman off me! |

lmfao,
no....
lol it's not about clothes in this case at all. It's about moral integrity for me. Most of the guys I met are just total d-bags when it comes to treating Korean people with respect. They definately look down upon them and treat them as 2nd rate citizens. It's hard to explain, but it's like they don't feel connected to the people at all. They don't make efforts to know Korean people as a person. They think guys are just, C*** blockers, or girls as just play things... etc
I mean don't get me wrong, I like drinking with them talking, shooting the shit and some of them are funny as hell. But when it comes to their behavior sometimes, I just don't respect them. I knew one guy who was making fun of a Korean girl to her face in public as she was walking down the street. She was looking in a mirror (a common thing) and he was mimmicing her. And he pretended to be a princess right in front of her as she was passing by. She had the most deveastingly embarassed and sad face I had ever seen. She was really insecure and completely shattered. She looked a dog, who had just been kicked in the stomache. She was on the verge of tears. He didn't care and said something to the effect of stupid Korean girl. (This guy is no longer my friend).
I have other examples, such as I've seen a lot of vetrans who have Korean wifes or girlfriends and constantly cheat. I mean constantly...
Or I see guys who take the easy route with their jobs, dicking around and genuinely don't care about students. They teach privates and sometimes I ask, what do you do? They say "Nothing" just play some games like Rock paper scissors. So parents pay you 45,000 won an hour to be a babysitter? No regard for their future or education.
Someone's going to ask, why do you hang out with them if you don't respect them. Well in Korea, beggars can't be choosers. The ones I do respect are too busy working or have families... No time to hang out.
The ones that have time are probably drunk now trying to get some ass in the club as we speak. Again, I'm ok with it, that's their life choice but I definately don't respect them. I like them as peopel and I think back in their home countries they wouldn't do half the stuff they do now. But here it seems morals loosen up, inhibitions fly, and definately decency seems to go out the window sometimes.
Of course, I'm generalizing and it's not always this bad, but for me, it's all too common.
FT women on the other hand have been great.... but hella nerdy and sometimes a bit socially inept... and that's pretty bad considering I play WoW, know 4chan memes, loves D&D, and like to look up philosophy in my spare time. |

It's natural for people to adapt to their environment. It would be strange if a person didn't change their behavior when the go to a foreign country to live. Your right that that adaptation isn't always in a positive direction. People have to take personal responsibility for their actions; however, there are things to lure people to the dark side in Korea.
I was walking down the street in Itaewon one night when a young lady came out of a door, grabbed my hand, and tried to lead me back inside saying "come, it's okay, it's okay." She was maybe 22 and oh my dear god beautiful. If I was at all interested in paying for it, she would have taken me to the dark side that night. That has never happened to me once where I'm from. That doesn't mean I couldn't find it if I wanted to, but it has never been something I was forced to say no to before.
Again that doesn't excuse bad behavior. Just something to consider. |

i'm guessing you are someone who expected the best from others and now they can't fulfill the expectations you have for them.
Isn't this a possible reason why most people leave a country and seek to find a society who may have similar societal goals?
Perhaps your personality is in complete opposition to the common personality in the country in which you live in or came from.
http://books.google.com/books?id=CBwDwhXk4KoC&pg=PA88&lpg=PA88&dq=countries,+infp,+nepal&source=bl&ots=ensHsOzJCN&sig=MrMurWQWfYhp5FQioGEy7AKvv3U&hl=en&ei=TIcJSqmZLZSNtgep34TcCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4
Seems like there are alot of underlying issues you negelcted to reflect on.
We idealists want a better world, but the fact of the matter is that the rest of the world chooses to live in their own little worlds.
My advice is to kick back and void yourself of any care that may easily creep on you. When you do this you'll get to a point where people who unflinchingly desires to live in their box, sees your box and envies you with a passion based on how well you enjoy your life.
Forget bout it! |

I don't know if I hate other people or what have you because I've never met another foreigner while in Korea. It's not that I'm anti-foreinger, it's just that I've got no desire to meet other foreigners.
My main source of companionship is all the 40 year old adjumas I meet who treat me like a king.
I do have to admit though, if I see another foreigner, I get as far away from them as possible.
That in itself seems a little hateful if you ask me. |

| I sit in the same room with foreigners every day, so I have no particular feelings toward them. Most are friends, and I get along with just about anyone. Occasionally if someone crosses lines with me, I might get a little hyper. That being said, since a small boy I've always had something of a 'complex' when I meet someone who is extremely outgoing, well educated, or basically anything that is light years ahead of myself - And I feel envy. And we all know where envy leads. |

I like most people in general and tend to get along with them. There are a few that make me want to choke them, but meh. Can't like everyone.
At the same time though, I'm also a bit of an anti social, I'll admit. I do like going out and hanging with friends or going places, but I do like a good amount of 'alone' time too. I'm not really a big fan of clubs and hardcore drinking/partying. Yeah, I'm the kid who you'll see playing a single player video game and will whine that going out at 10:00 is too late. Go me. |

I don't wish them any harm, I just don't like them, or think they are particularly interesting. Well, you may ask, who are you fromtheuk?!!!
I make no claim about myself. I don't claim to be interesting at all, but I personally like to avoid most of humanity, as much as possible.
Do you dislike most of the people you meet?
STAY ON TOPIC. STAY ON TOPIC. STAY ON TOPIC. |
I quite agree, fromtheuk.
I find most people to be quite a drain on my energy levels to be quite frank. And most times when I'm in a social situation, I am often daydreaming of the time I can get back to my home/apartment/cave where I can truly feel relaxed.
Most times when I find myself in a social situation with more than 1 other person, I feel my role in the group gets increasingly marginalized as time goes on, to the point I almost feel invisible. Listening to other people talk crap ain't my idea of a good time. I just seem to have no incentive to break in on a conversation I'm not particularly interested in in the first place.
It usually ends up me wishing for the comfort of my home/apartment/cave and looking for the first opportunity to 'escape'... Sometimes I'll quietly leave and not tell anyone - those times I can't be bothered considering and debating people's arguments for me to stay. |
