The cop was/is an idiot...and it shows in that video.
The fact that he punched the girl reveals his lack of competence.
I'm sure he is the pride of his department. |

| The girl who got punched was previously accused of punching a 15 year old in the face and robbing him and a 14 year old in the head and robbing him. Live by the punch; die by the punch. |

Seriously, I don't understand why people cant get it into their heads that you don't aggressively dispute legal issues at the point of enforcement. |

That's my point, exactly. Or, you could do as the above poster mentioned and 'ignore it' - because that's so much more intelligent. |

Openly ignoring(breaking) a law is a powerful action in and of itself. The fact that you don't agree with that practice makes it no less intelligent than thoughts you may have on the matter. |

Openly ignoring something like segregation laws would be a powerful action in and of itself. Openly ignoring jaywalking laws, then ignoring the cop who tries to speak to you about them, then resisting arrest, then having your friend attack the cop isn't a powerful action, it's just disregarding the law. The same disregard for the law that lead these girls to commit previous criminal infractions.
Let's get real here. These girls don't have some philosophic dispute with the laws in question. They're just poorly raised punks who have an "I'll do what I want" attitude. |

Quite right Fox...I am not defending the actions of the girls in question.
...though I find their actions less offensive than the police officers.
He did strike an unarmed female in the face with a closed fist.
Ignoring the jaywalking...no worries there.
Perhaps the police officer could/should have done the same.
The rest was just nonesense...from all parties involved. |

Sure, ignoring a law could be a powerful response. You may find yourself being the next Rosa Parks or Founding Father by standing up to a unjust law. Or you may find yourself sitting in jail, with two weeks of infamy as the village idiot. I have a feeling the girls in this video will find themselves in the latter situation.
As I said before in this thread, I also disagree with jaywalking laws as most are written. However, there are good ways and bad ways to handle getting caught knowingly breaking a stupid law. Berating an officer, resisting arrest, and having a friend assist you in resisting arrest are a few of those bad ways.

The fact that he punched the girl reveals the stress of the situation he was in. There was a crowd all around him, and he was being forced to directly deal with two physically violent morons. No matter what minor infraction caused the situation to escalate to the level it did, how can you blame the officer for reacting the way he did when an individual other than the one he was already struggling with decided to fight him? And again, he didn't throw a knockout punch. The girl didn't drop to the ground, she didn't stumble back, she didn't show the slightest sign of disorientation.

Oh don't be coy. Females lose the "lady defense" when they start punching and pushing people. |

Except of course in domestic violence situations; where more often than not, the cops get to come and and punch the man in the face again. |

Yeah, my brother ended up in one of these situations. The woman he was living with assaulted him, he fought back, he ended up in jail, she wasn't even taken by the cops. I don't support domestic violence, but I do support an end to sexism in domestic violence prosecutions. |

| All seriousness aside, can you imagine how much it sucks to be the cop at the department right now. He beat up a girl, I bet the other officers won't ever let him live it down. |

The "girl" in question looks to be bigger than he is. |

Doesn't matter. Just think of all the jokes they can now make at his expense. |

Which, unfortunately, is the reason I have such problems with cops. Sure she was an idiot, both of them were, but I think there should be some seiours psychological screenings of cops. I know there are a lot of good.. No Great cops protecting us on a daily basis, but I think that far too many go into policing, because it gives them an opportunity to be the bully.
I've seen it time and time again. Cops like to beat on people. I could never be a cop, because I have a hair trigger and enjoy a good ol fashioned fisticuffs. But I know giuys worse than me who are cops. Generally they make me sick.
Maybe this guy was a good cop who got carried away, but I still think he should be mildy remrimanded for his conduct. I would have imposed a simple wristlock. |

This guy is working alone and has no back up and is surrounded by what look to be 3 or 4 people. Situations like this can get really dangerous. Both of those women were assaultive / resisting and not listening to his commands and acting like friggin idiots.
He's in a tough position because once the fight is on like that, there's no way in hell he can let them walk. He should of tried to end it quicker with the woman in the black shirt first. I think he let that go on too long. In the video you can see she's not listening to his commands and she's resisting...so she needs a little spritz to encourage her cooperate. |
