Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good recruiter. I have been trying to get a job in Korea for some time now, and I am getting a bit frustrated. I have all of my visa documents and I am ready to leave for Korea as soon as possible. Can anyone help me get a job?

Thanks

Please, please, please do not EVER use Pamela Ji. She is THE WORST. I am in the most miserable work situation because Pamela Ji pulled a bait and switch on me. To make a long story short, she set me up with a perfect job but then 1 week after I sent my signed contract and paper work to her she informed me that she was unable to place me at that job but got me a visa in a different city at a different school. After asking her 4 times what school she told me the name, after that I knew why she didn't tell me. So, it was either work at the school or stay in the United States (after a visa is issued you cannot apply again for one year.) My first week at the school I discovered that the SAME thing happened to my coworker and guess who his recruiter was? Pamela Ji.

I had two recruiters place me. Unfortunately, they both retired. The first one was... not all there, second was awesome (Korvia) too bad she stopped.

I did have issue with Sestimony Jim (name changed to protect the innocent)

He pulled a bait n switch on me, promised me a public school job, we stopped contact for a week then when I called him again he told me he had an awesome opportunity at a HAGWON on the OTHER SIDE OF SEOUL.

If you meet a recruiter that rhymes with my fake name, avoid him. But its been three years so he probably changed his name to something like Galleluja Rhee.

If your recruiter pulls a bait n switch, pull out.
Just call up another recruiter (don't tell the first one this obviously) and get your documents back. Or have recruiter #2 get the docs from recruiter #1.

Newbie here. I'd be curious to know why your prefer hagwon jobs to public schools, given the prevalence of shady hagwons and recruiters you mentioned. Thanks in advance!

Sigh.... Raise the old debate of which is better public schools or hagwons. Both have good points and bad points.

Hagwons can be have good points like

Afternoon schedule. Work from 2/3 to 9/10. Party till late, sleep, and teach again. Or it gives you a chance to do something during the day like go to bank or visit doctor. Of course there are Kindy hagwons which are more 9 to 5 ish.

Location, not all public schools are prime areas. Some people have to live in the middle of nowhere a.d the nearest waygook friend might be an hours travel by bus). With hagwons you get to live in a comfortable city and have waygook friends close by.

Less students. A typical hagwon class will have at most 15 students. A public could have 30 to 40 students.

Higher relationship politics - Really every week at waygook.org (another ESL forum) it is one gripe or another about coteacher at public schools. I work at hagwons and yes I have had some troubles with coworkers but not to the extent others can have daily.

Work Load - If lucky some hagwons can be moderate to easy on work load. Minor prep work and ready to pick up book and teach (like me). Public schools can be at times really demand more preparation.

There is a start for you.
