How's that? Your parents had no training in raising you, in TEACHING you, but EXPERIENCE as you grew made them good teachers no?
I have 7yrs experience teaching over here.
I'd say if I am not a real teacher, wtf am I? My classroom management is pretty good. My lesson plans are usually solid and not just "winged". I assign grades, which go on a students perm. record. I participate in school events, and at time help other teachers with their English.
I'd say the guy who is just off the boat isn't a real teacher...they are more like "teacher trainees" but after a year most people should get the basics. For the slower amoung those newbies, perhaps 2 years.
Of course there are always lazy people, who don't care, just drink, blow their cash and show up for class. But I am hoping the majority aren't like that. |

i didn't mean for my comment to be taken 100% literally.
maybe, i've just found this job to be very frustrating at times because of the lack of training. |
I wish there were professional workshops held in Korea, but there are none that I know of.
I applied for B.ED back home...they refused me because I didn't have a math prereq, and I was too bitter to apply to other universities.
(My gpa kinda sucks too...they want like 3.5 or some crap like that...3.0 should be good enough with job experience)
I doubt I will teach forever...but who knows. I am sort of sick of ESL. Would rather teach something with more depth... |

| Of course we are not real teachers here in Korea. Most of us have useless BA's that do nothing for us back home. Hell, a few months ago, I was so desperate to get some decent money that I almost went to truck driving school. The economy back home sucks and the jobs suck. Plenty of jobs if you want to work for a whopping $7-8 an hour. Luckily, Korea saved me from such a fate. However, I am not under the illusion that I am a real teacher...I'm not. But I do as well as I can possibly do under the circumstances. |
