Yes, the schools usually need a teacher "immediately" and interview a few at once. If the first one can't come, they go straight to the next one. Right now there is a lot of teachers trying to come. |

Keep pushing the recruiter, Koreans are sentimental, don't want to change horses yet with the 15th Nov timeline round the corner.
Whatever happens, you did all you could, apart from the suspected passport blupse.
I'm feeling definitely upbeat about everything.
And if the worst comes to the worst, there are better fates about than washing up in the Land of the Morning Calm. |

thanks Shifty, i e-mailed my recruiter and asked him he is has sent my details to the new school he found.
i'm also thinking it's too risky to go with a new recruiter. if this fails, i guess it's China |

If you're looking for cash, the impression that I get is that Vietnam is a better bet. |

Doesn't Vietnam overtly prefer American accent? |

Nope. There are plenty of Aussies and Brits teaching in Vietnam. RMIT for one has a big presence in Vietnam.
Anyway, Korea vs. Vietnam - you're not really comparing like for like. |

What is the essential difference then? That you have to have an English major or some qualification like Celta?
Is is too hot there or is the noise worse than Korea god be praised? I'm just wondering why so little is known of it. |

Vietnam and China are comparable, quality of life-wise, which is why I brought it up.
And the difference with Korea is that Vietnam requires CELTA or teaching certification, in addition to not paying for housing or airfare. |

China is great to live there, but with the exchange rate, it is basically impossible to save any money to take home.
I don't know about Vietnam for working, but it's a great place to visit. Really beautiful. |

Thanks for clearing that up, Northway.
I don't really feel up to doing a hectic Celta. I hate the thought of shelling out megabucks and then having my age of 56 standing in the way of doing something with it.
There again, there must be some interesting aspects to it that make up for the high risk. |

If you believe that China will truly unpeg the RMB within the next two or three years and are willing to let your money sit in out in China waiting for that to happen, it could be a really good option.
As for CELTA, I think it's a great qualification to get if you're young and can use it as a fallback for years to come. If you're older I can see where it would be something you wouldn't be nuts about. My understanding, however, is that Vietnam is a bit more chilled out about the whole age thing than Korea is. I don't really consider a bit over a thousand dollars to be megabucks by any stretch of the imagination, however. That's essentially one vacation that you don't go anywhere for. |

I have a CELTA, but to be honest i've never really heard anything about teaching conditions, pay etc regarding Vietnam.
i#m still keeping everything crossed for Korea. |

Korea is an easy option due to the way the hiring process works, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best option money-wise or teaching-wise. Teaching-wise, it appears to me that the situation in Vietnam is a bit better, and you're generally getting better accommodations, though you have to pay for them yourself. Vietnam is a much more interesting place on the whole, to say the least, with significantly more variety to its food. |

You're right of course. I was factoring in the month long hotel costs and other arrangements I'd have to make. Plus I'm a bit tight with money. |
