yeah, how about an ESL teacher who got no gifts on teachers day and so he's going round bumping off all the kids who didn't give big enough gifts..................only way to avoid it is to bring your teacher a gift every class (and do your homework on time). Can't hurt to try right...

Koera has a lot of what is in the west called urban myths. I'm presently writing an article on them for a friends website, in fact as she needs the hits the URL is www.seoulscene.com , hopefully you can see my article on there in the next couple of weeks.

The red ghost story thing is an interesting thing indeed. All the kids I've spoken to are scared though not all believe it. The non superstitious kids think it's dumb and in a way it is as all urban myths are dumb, though they are at times very interesting.

korea does seem a place where a neme is easily placed and that seems to explain the huge amounts of cults and religious craziness that goes on here in the land of the not quite right.

My kids have told me. That the demon ghost thing only attaks certain blood types. That it killed 100 people in Bongcheon area of Seoul in the last few days, That it is real, that it is a myth, you can (as another poster said) ward it off with the chinese character for dog, everything one of my smarter students said can be learned by a quick naver search. Have'mt done it yet.

I'll do it later!

My students said the "red mask" was in Icheon today... apparently between 3 and 4pm, it was wondering between Sin Han Apartments and N-Kids hagwon...

They were literally that specific. I tried to get them to go for a walk to find it with me, but they wouldn't.

I did use this as a good chance to teach the non-believers the words "legend", "myth", and "urban legend".

Leave it to Korea to ensure that their scary urban myths have fashion sense and wear heels. She probably fixes her hair every 4 steps and checks herself out in her reflections from mirrors and windows, every 6 steps, too. That way people know that she is a Korean urban myth, and not to be confused for any another place. Wink

But if she kept her mask on...
