| It's scary to see the lengths that people will go to just so that they can feel apart of something or "belong". Like running up and kicking an overturned car - WTF? There are definitely a lot of really, really dumb people in the world. |

| If you look at most of the culprits, they are mostly men 25 and under. In this day and age with all the digital cameras/smartphones, etc. what were they thinking? LIke they wouldn't get caught? One of my friends back home said a guy who was arrested had said on tv that he had insured his car for 1 week and PURPOSEFULLY drove it to the area. Afterwards HE himself helped light the car on fire, can you believe that? |

| Frankly, anyone who gets that worked up about a sporting event needs to be rounded up and removed from the gene pool. |

I saw the police chief reporting today on the news that it was mainly anarchists responsible for the vandalizing, burning and fighting. I don't buy that, especially after watching quite a bit of the footage taken of the riots. Just a lot of dumb 20 something males, and some females, going absolutely nuts. |

Anarchists or not, there were people who went down there with no intention of cheering on a hockey team but to start trouble. It wasn't started by disgruntled hockey fans. I'm not sure who needs a backpack with a mask and lighter fluid to watch a hockey game. Once they get it going the other clowns who bus in from the burbs who've been boozing for 3,4,5 hours fall in line like sheep and the mob mentality snowball gets rolling.
There's one kid,17,who is/was headed to U of Calgary on a water polo scholarship who has been photographed stuffing a rag into a police car gas tank and trying to light it. Nice job kid. |

| On another note I actually stayed up last night and watched the parade in Boston to celebrate the Stanley Cup. Estimates put it over 1 million people and there were only like 9 people arrested for public drunkeness, etc. No cars burned or stores vandalized. On the night they won the cup the city of Boston was very well behaved too. Sadly I've heard people speculate that even if Vancouver had won virtually the same stuff would have gone down. |

| The mayor said that if the Canucks make it to the finals again next year they will still set up fan zones downtown. I'm sure the business community will have something to say. |

| I don't think businesses need to worry about the canucks making it to the finals next year. |

| What the businesses should be asking is why City Hall didn't provide the police with adequate resources to deal with a crowd of 100,000+ people. |

Seriously? Does the city need another chance to learn that this stuff just doesn't work in Vancouver? So much blame for these riots lies on them. You could see this coming a mile away. |

Interesting point. It happened in '94. It was ugly then, too. So, that being said, you'd think that the city would be on high alert with all Emergency personnel and city staff - fire, ambulance, police, etc.
I'm surprised that people in the local downtown business association (whatever it is called) didn't have any meetings with the city to plan and prepare for the possibility of it turning ugly. After all, it is their stores that were damaged, looted and had the windows smashed out. |

| They should've had some campaign going on beforehand. Ads on TV, etc. |
