I feel like I read about your contract where they said "we'd prefer a woman but we'll take you if you work split shifts." In that situation, I would have considered it at least (I know split shifts can be rough. Sometimes I work those here.) had it not been for the fact that they said we'd prefer a woman. My fear would be unlawful firing or not offering me a renewal if they found a woman to take my place.

Or it could just have been a underhanded bargaining tactic, and the job you thought you were interviewing for never existed. Really, they they only had the split shift job and were just hoping you'd be desperate enough at the end to take it when they gave you some BS excuse about the first one. (In this case it was "not a woman", but could have been "too old" or any other equally invalid reason.)

Either way, risk of dumpage for a woman or lies from the start, it's probably just as well you passed.

Yeah that was the first thing I thought. Bait and switch. From my experience thats how all posted jobs are. I email a recruiter about a job that have just posted on Dave's or on their website, but it's never available. I've just never had it happen after the interview.

Too many teachers not enough jobs, keep trying, don't give up.

I have my file on at least 40 different recruiters lists, I know due to my inbox. They told me that they cannot send my resume more than once to schools. I have not received any contracts yet, and I have had my apostilled documents since August 7. Also, I have 4 years teaching experience and a CELTA degree, it can't be due to lack of experience, it can't be due to bad interviews, I've only had about 3-4. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to keep hagwons flushed with my resume?

I wished I had those.

With a Trinity CertTESOL qualification (which means little in south korea) I had 3 interviews. My very first interview was with YBM which they offered me a contract in condition that I get my Criminal Check on time (you can guess what happened here). The other was with CDI and a public school. All interviews I had so far offered me a position. Shocked

All that and not being a caucasian. Shocked

The others were near misses and I dare say near misses because I've been asked for an interview which never transpired; recruiters after asking for the best time and date, have this uncanny knack of disappearing into silence. Any form of further communication is recieved with an eerie silence.
They are all now resting in my trash bin, a constant reminder not to waste your time.

Oyeah only one was kind enough to reply back and say sorry that their positions has been filled. Rolling Eyes and you call yourself a recruiter?

With your experience and qualifiation you'll bound to get something good.

My friend just got a job in gangnam.

Took him a month.

He's also the hardest working person I know.

To those complaining, try harder. It doesn't surprise me my friend got a job so quickly, he used to run a business and turned that down to come to Korea. If you work your tail off like him and treat finding a job like a full time job I'm sure you'll find a job as well.

I used to work for a Topia near about Bundang. One of my gypopo co-workers later went into business as a recruiter. Whereas, I don't know anything about what jobs he has available (because it's not my business and I have enough of my own to worry about), he generally mentions that he has surplus jobs. Likewise, whereas, I have not personally seen any of the contracts he has available, I do know him from our time as co-workers; plus he's helped me out in Korea. So, I can say, that out of what I don't know working with him could be a good try for you, and certainly as good as other recruiters whom I do know. Basically, he's an upstanding person, and if he says he's going to work on your behalf, he would.

So, in the general scheme of friendliness, if you want me to put you in touch with him just to see what's available, then let me know.

Although, I've been in Korea for over two years, I just started posting, so I figure I should help people along if I can.

I had an interview last week, felt pretty good about it, but found out today that I didn't get the job.

I really feel discouraged about this whole thing. Everyday I contact recruiters or schools and at this point I really hate doing it. I have never been unable to get a job before. It really sucks. I should have tried harder to find a job while I was in Korea.

i think me and MegaMind know the same guy. He worked at Topia Bundang and started a recruiting company with a team of other former teachers. He's definitely a stand up guy. rayray - you should try contacting them. go to schoolofROK.com. PM me if you have any questions about them. good luck!
