I was just clarifying a point and dont think that this clarification will stop OP to make a good decision. While dealing with Korean academia, Contract enforcement is not that great. I was alarming OP of a possible pitfall from acting upon your proposal. It has happened in a few universities, I know a SKY university myself, that promissed international opportunities to all admitted international students but later, violated the commitment and deprived foreigners from exchange programs etc. And It was a SKY University. This happens lot frequently in Non SKY ones. |
is that what it's being called now?
funny, I thought it was called c*ck blocking. you know, trying to discourage a foreigner from doing anything whatsoever that might be deemed only for Korean nationals, you know, like attending a Korean univ for a PhD |

No, That is saving a foreigner from compromising his career. I personally researched Korean PhD, got admitted to a SKY with good stipend+scholarship+assistantship but I refused admission. The reason is low quality of programs and huge discrimination between Korean and foreigner. I did not want to ruin my future with these "Confucians" However, every one has his own circumstances. Something bad for me might be good for any one else. We must clarify all the merits and demerits to others. It is not a matter of encouraging and discouraging but an issue of sharing your views. Off course, people are free to decide at the end. |
