What would any rapper say when asked to mimic a pop star?

My guess is that a good portion would lose their &^%$

I don't know, I'd be pretty pissed off if people kept requesting I dance a comic dance by a fellow Korean just because I too was Korean. Seems to me he's pissed about western racism towards Asians more than anything. Being a racist against racists isn't as bad as being a racist douche without any provocation.

Not that his claims that all whiteys are like that are true, clearly a heat of the moment thing and not great to say.

Not sure I agree with this assessment.

The people requesting the 'dance' weren't being racist.
Perhaps, at worst, they were being opportunists.
Hey...a Korean guy...he must know the Psy dance.
And no doubt...he did know of it...as he was Korean, too.
Psy drops the fact that he is Korean at just about say...well every time he speaks.

As an entertainer, it is obvious he was pissed at being second rated to a pop dance...and being asked to preform that dance...ouch.

The racist part was all him though...his issues...not theirs.
And it's worse cause he is an entertainer, and he should know how to handle these things.

Pretty pathetic really.

Sure he was probably annoyed at being second rate to PSY at his own show.

But I think the guy has endured a bit more than that. Being an Asian American isn't without it's moments of racism. I don't think Asians are well represented by the media and I'm sure having a bunch of hecklers tell you to stop rapping and do the horse dance is pretty insulting and drags up a lot of feelings. The only reason they did it is because the two are Korean. I wouldn't like it if some Koreans asked me to skate like Brian Orser because I happen to be a Canadian who can skate, then persist in demanding that I stop playing hockey and demonstrate his famous moves.

Actually, I think a number of posters here got upset when a Korean commercial used a random white dude in a commercial with Kim Yuna and said he was Brian. I think a lot of people here get annoyed with stereotypes that Koreans have of us that are purely based on other people. Like that pedophile Christopher Neil. Yes, he was a horrible human being, but whether your linking someone by race to something bad like a pedophile or something funny like a goofy dance it can be annoying and perhaps hurtful. Clearly to different degrees, but I assume he was making the connection to other instances of racism in his life and ranting more about his feelings from the past than just this.

Imagine if people started yelling, "Hey say 'I really like lemons!!!" or "Do a cool spin kick, HIIIIIYAAAA!!!" "Come on man, I know you can do it!"

I bet a number of people here would rant if their beloved Britney Spears (OK...a stretch of the imagination...bare with me) was here in Korea and a bunch of Koreans demanded she do Lady Gaga's dance. OK if Britney flipped out, got drunk and drove here car afterwards I'd still call her a crazy beyatch, but I'd at least understand that she'd have been hurt by all the years of torment she's had at the hands of Asians...OK my point loses itself here, but I suppose she might have a complex about always being beaten by that Korean kid on math tests.

Anyway, the point being. It's racist to make such a stupid connection and akin to some of the other stupid stuff that people assume about Asians and link with Asians. What he said was wrong, but I understand where he's coming from and I think his outburst, which was racist, is a result of racism he's felt. His wife is mixed, his kid is mixed, he's a Korean guy who isn't typical. He's way down the line on my list of racist people, he might even make it on my list of more open minded people....who just had a bad day and has some issues because other people feel the need to put him in a box because he's Asian.

A little thing I suppose, but I get annoyed when Koreans can't stop commenting on how blond and strange my kid's hair is, or that he can speak Korean, yet insist on talking to him in English when he has no idea what the hell they are saying. I like to freak em out and tell them he eats Kimchi and has a Korean passport. Even if they happen to be right (his hair is freakishly blond) there is just no need to keep pointing stuff like that out because the shade of his skin and the slant of his eyes play no role in how he feels and what he enjoys doing, and after a while I bet it's going to get tiresome. So far my son's only 2, I can only imagine how I'd feel after 38 more years.

You are making some valid points. I should have said I only partially disagree with your earlier post.

No doubt this Psy issue is heating things up for a guy like him.
If he already hates CNN for using Asians as comic relief and then Psy comes along and plays that very card...total suckage.

While your take on his venting of past racism could very well be spot on, I wonder to what degree he would go off on people like Psy for playing up the dancing monkey routine.

I wonder how many other Asian artists there are that are not too crazy for that particular brand of entertainment as well...or the stereotype that it reinforces.

What makes you think that white culture is any worse than other cultures?

What exactly is white culture?

And certainly no more inherently racist then "Asian" culture or "Black" culture.

You guys are kidding, right? Racism is basically invented by white people. There's only about 8 countries in this world who have not been colonized by a European country. Most of those are Asian. Asians, some of whom had civilizations for 5,000 years never colonized or enslaved another people to "civilize" them. If you want to what the remnants of this racism is in America today, just watch Fox News or notice the unfair vitriol Obama gets. If you want a simpler example, watch that "Kids react to Kpop" video and notice who makes the disparaging remarks. It's the white kids. It's almost as if they're trained to disparage anything unfamiliar.

Well that's great, condemn the entire white population because of what a few idiots did at your concert. I like that a white boy can come to Korea, learn the language, do his best to understand the culture, and stay within the law but still get blasted when some other white boys he doesn't know do something stupid. It sounds like the way a lot of minorities get labeled in the USA, and that isn't ok either. I can handle it when an older Korean person that has never left the country doesn't see the connection. However, this guy grew up in LA and Florida, he should know better. And I can look past the comments if he didn't stand by them, but when he says he doesn't take back anything he says he is not admitting that he made a mistake. Sorry but I can't even understand where he is coming from here. Usually I can see a reason someone might be racist but this is a guy that doesn't have an excuse.

It's awesome that foreigners liking PSY is somehow racist too. This is like ultra hypersensitivity at work. He just sounds like a typical racist to me.

Ah, I think you need to look deeper into Asian history. Japan tried to wipe Korea off the map some 70 years ago. And don't forget that tons of people were 'absorbed' into other Asian cultures throughout the last 2000 years. The Chinese with the countless number of minorities, who mostly have lost their languages, and the Vietnamese with the Khmers in southern Vietnam just a few hundred years ago. And what the Chinese are trying to do with Tibet now.
