I don't think it is ignorant to point out that the public transport is way hotter than it needs to be during winter. It's called an opinion.
Some people just love to over-react and make everything some huge cultural war, when it is simply a conversation. |

Funny, it's the exact opposite in Thailand. Take a bus in Thailand the aircon is set to deal with the heat on the bus at the beginning of the trip. As the bus ride progresses it gets cold as hell in the bus and they don't adjust the aircon (who knows maybe they can't). At least they now hand out blankets on the government approved buses at the bus terminals, they didn't used to and you just had to freeze if you didn't bring a light jacket. |

The point was Koreans over-react to the very slightest change in temperature. |
And all the while, I thought we were talking about the opposite.... |
I changed the quote for you since it was mine to begin with.
Oddly, you seem quite primed to reply for someone who doesn't think it's a big deal. If you don't mind a 30 degree blast of hot air stewing up all the BO and stale cigarette smells on a crowded commute to work when it's already 17 degrees outside, then you are the real shiz. Give yourself a pat on the back for all your awesomeness.
I'd hardly call a thread mildly ranting on the topic an over-reaction.... but since you seem to enjoy a good whine, read this:

You were so bothered, you submitted the thread twice. |
"Oddly, you seem quite primed to reply for someone who doesn't think it's a big deal."
Who said your illogical reasoning wasn't a big deal? Gosh, I thought that's what I was replying to....silly me.
In terms of your self-described, albeit insinuated, "rant." Well...you called it... [Dude, I'm not in denial...mine was a rant and I call it that...but not all rants are meaningless...that is...especially if we see them as rants...the rest is kind of delusional burgeoning on...well...yeah]
---you searched my posts...keke that's kinda kinky in a freaky sorta way.
---Odd that you read so much into one line...perhaps that's where the logic problem begins? |

| *giggle* yeah, what was that about being illogical ? *giggle* Oh forget it, I won't be able to follow *giggle*. Naw, just tell that story again about taxi drivers being rude and difficult. I can't believe that actually happened. |

This is one of those complaints I just don't get... Well okay, I get the complaint, but I don't get the moaning/b----ing/whining about it.
You're hot. I understand. It seems to me that a huge majority within the native population is happy with the temperature. You, therefore, need to adapt and get over it.
Now, if it's just a "Gawdang it's hot on these buses" kinda complaint, that I can understand.
But when it turns into a "Gawdang it's hot on these buses. What's wrong with Korean people. Why.... Wahhh, wahhh, wahhh. Why don't they have a system that makes me happy" ... that's not right. |

These are the same people who if Koreans said something like that about them, would absolutely blow their lid about those "bigoted Koreans". |

| A week ago a group of friends of mine went out to a noraebang. There was an AC and thankfully it turned on. A little while later 2 more Korean friends showed up (it was just foreigners before that). They complained about how cold it was and asked for the AC to be turned off immediately. They were both dressed with jackets, scarves and pants. Even with the AC on we were sweating in T-shirts. It was a tiny room with people smoking and drinking. How on earth are you cold? After about half an hour a few of us just had to turn it back on, but the Koreans complained that they were shaking because they were so cold and that this is how you get sick. I was about ready to pass out. And this isn't an isolated incident, I think climate control is the #1 cultural clash foreigners have in Korea. People say the American diet makes us all fat. Well, maybe the Korean diet leaves their population frail and unable to heat itself. I really don't know. All I know is that a subway car crammed with people going through underground tunnels doesn't need heat, even if it was travelling through Siberia. The blasting heat just makes all those kimchi farts that much more dense. |
Like, I said, white people have different layers on their inner skin. I think we have an internal blanket or something compared to others around the world. It's why we can tolerate the colder temps and why we sweat like hell in summer compared to others. |

Years ago, Korean Air didn't have the best safety record. In 1997/1998 auditors were brought in from Delta airlines to look at their procedures. The auditors issued the following report (it's a long read - but it's here because someone will say "link please"):
http://www.flight.org/blog/2009/10/01/korean-airlines-internal-audit-report-an-airline-waiting-to-happen/
Anyway, after reading this thread, I chuckled when I came across this -
"Many complaints are received from the passengers that the aircraft cabins operated to HOT. Should be 24C to 25C and are often set at 28C plus."
The following situation might be familiar to a lot of teachers as well:
"The flight operations department appears to have poor communications between management and the staff. There is very little feedback to the crew on any
matters, important or otherwise. The Foreign Captains especially, source most of the company information via the rumor network. This is most unsatisfactory and of little benefit to anybody. It appears that the silent, secret dis-information technique is a current management style." |

Yes, absolutely. Every time my CT tells me that I handle the cold better than her I feel personally violated. When my landlord tells me it's crazy that I'm not using heat in October I scream about bigotry. Absolutely. This happens all the time. Thanks for pointing out the gross hypocrisy of all foreigners in Korea. |
