Yes and no, I always require the company to set me up in a hotel with a kitchen because I won't eat American food, and that kitchen is fully stocked with equipment.
Yes, the fact that it took 40 minutes to turn off a freakin' smoke detector was the topic of the post. The topic was over-security, which is an Amerikanism. |

Haha dammit. Why are you English teachers so skeptical and pedantic?
I'm cooking $30/lb grass fed buffalo steaks, organic eggs, and asparagus in grass fed butter. Where am I going to find that, IHOP? LOL.
And anyhow, if you're going to argue over pointless details, it's not "American breakfast", meat and eggs and vegi are timeless.
But the point is the US over-security/safety. Surprised I wasn't strip searched crossing the border! |

Tomorrow I graduate with my MSW and I'm miserable. I regret ever coming home and doing this program. I hate living in the states and would rather live in just about any other country.
The only reason I came back is that I felt that I should live in the states and my school was paid for.
Maybe I'm just so burnt out from school but I'd take a job back in Korea in a heart beat.
I never had anxiety in Korea but I've got it here every single day. I truly believe that generalized anxiety disorder is your internal compass telling you that you're on the wrong path.
I'm on the wrong path. |

What hotels are you talking about? Which hotel chains have kitchens in them and supply pots and pans for you to cook your own food? Maybe some Vegas dive hotels... what part of the country are you in, where you're cooking in your hotel room? This reeks of BS. |

Haha, I kind of agree with this..the only two kinds of short-term places that I know of that let guests cook are the most high end places and the most low end.
Back to topic. I live in Canada now and I've changed full-time careers twice (not just jobs) since I've moved home from Korea. I've just been offered a full-time job in my new field. I worked hard to get into this field and sacrificed quite a bit to get into it , and so I'm very excited about this.
However, there are things that I miss about Korea. The freedom I had as a 24 yr old I had when I was there, the chaos and adventure of being a stranger in a strange land, the 24/7 and drinking culture, the free time as an ESL teacher, the trips to Japan and Thailand and Vietnam, the camaraderie of always meeting people from different countries and making new friends.
I was young then, I'm older now. Now, that I've been back in Canada for several years, it's been long enough that Korea is now a blip in my life timeline. I'm comfortable here now. Most importantly (to me), I'm doing a job where I wake up every day looking forward to going to work and I'm optimistic about the future. I'm not going to be rich but I make a solid living. In a weird way, I think I appreciate being in the position I am in more than most people who are in the same position as me, because of the path through ESL in Korea and a different career than I've taken to get here.
I'm into healthier activities now than when I lived in Korea. I go hiking, Geo-caching, swimming, working out. I love taking long drives around where I live and exploring the area. I still rent in not a particularly fancy apartment, but there are times when I'm blown away by how beautiful the view is from my balcony. My experiences abroad and coming to rediscover where I live, I've come to appreciate how beautiful my home is.
That's not to say you can't find beauty in Korea or anywhere else. You just got to find what works for you, what makes you happy, and go with it. |
