Are all TEFLer's alcoholics?? Why is it that they all act like 20 year old college kids? STOP GOING TO CLUBS! Find something ELSE to do for entertainment! If you wanna drink, buy a six pack and take it to your apartment and drink! TEFLer's act like they will die if they aren't constantly around other bums who spend all their money on beer and happy weed.
Grow up, TEFLer's. Just because a society likes to drink 24/7 doesn't mean YOU have to follow. Unreal. |

You mean like 90% of young, single people in any job? |

You're right. While out in public during my drunken stupors, I suddenly decide to do things like smoke crack cocaine. What a disgrace I am to the ESL profession. Instead I should just get blitzed inside my own home and rant about killing people.
Most people drink because they like to get drunk and drink and socialize and get laid or watch a game. Also, they're thrust into a foreign land around a bunch of people that they have no prior relationship and bonding with. So they drink. Duh. |

Sure, that happens. That seems more plausible. |

Maybe I missed the part in the OP's thread where he got blackout drunk. 3 cocktails for a grown man is barely anything. He got jumped by some goons outside a club, concussed and then taken advantage of by a cab driver with the help of the useless K-police.
None of those things should be difficult to fathom for anybody that's been in this country longer than 6 months. It sucks that they both happened to dude on the same night. |

What you did miss was him meeting a bunch of other people at his friend's birthday and making such an impression that when it came time for everyone to hop into cabs, he went alone. (Dude, even if you're a newbie, people will offer to have you hop along in the cab with them unless you give off a seriously odd vibe) Then, when he is getting stomped, his friend doesn't go in swinging, and then proceeds to toss his bleeding, weeping butt into a cab and head back into the club to party with everyone else, who upon being told about this must have collectively shrugged their shoulders.
And all of this at Octagon in Apgujeong. Not exactly a haven of thug life in Korea. Dude, he'd have had to have been dragged through multiple flights of stairs and past strict bouncers.
There is more to this story than is being told. I'm sorry, but if any friend, or even an acquaintance of mine were getting gang stomped my reaction would not be to throw them in a cab and go back into the club for Jaegerbombs. |

Captain says it possible. That's good enough for me. Anyone in the Expat Hell inner circle must know their sh!t from their shinola. |

It's certainly possible. However, I think its much more probable that there was a lot more to this story than we are being told. |

In a world of casual passing acquaintances, you are better than most. |

Do you not have receipt of the taxi fare? |
Oddly, after being attacked by 6 guys, getting a receipt slipped my mind.
;-p
I wish I did. |
Why didn't you call the police and have a police report filed when you were attacked initially? I'm sure there were cameras surrounding the area.
Man just reminds me that we all need to be a bit more careful sometimes at night. Speaking of which, where did this occur? |
Being a Non-Korean is not going to help the O.P. |

I was not alone on the ride to the club. They were people I had just met.
Continuing the story/update:
To get my visa with my new job handled I had to go to immigration yesterday and have an interview with a ministry of justice agent. This "interview" amounted to me being forced to sign a pledge that required the following:
1) Admit guilt. For what, doesn't matter
2) Pledge to not break any more laws in Korea with the threat of deportation as punishment.
Because of the Visa situation, I had 9 days from reentry to start my visa transfer. If I did not sign this I was told by immigration and the MOJ officer that I would no longer be allowed to work in Korea and I would be given an exit order. **ADMITTING GUILT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO STAY IN THE COUNTRY AND CONTINUE WORKING**
On the previously acquired report from the MOJ I was never arrested, guilty, or punished, and now immigration has now punished me by threat of deportation. I assume that this signed confession/affidavit is now on file.
I think I need a lawyer/the US embassy. I was strong armed to admit guilt without a trial and have a record with no trial/evidence. Advice appreciated. |

I was also looking into starting the process for obtaining an F visa, and I'm pretty sure what happened yesterday pretty much makes that impossible. |
