So there are only 48 posters on Dave's? Because 12 people claimed an income in that top bracket, and if that's a quarter of posters, by my math there are only 48 of us.

Most foreigners that I know who are married to Koreans, or who have engineering type jobs, are making 6 million + per month. Most all off my and my wife's Korean acquaintances are also making 6 million + per month.

Yeah, yeah, you read somewhere that the average income is 26 million per year. Well, that's taxed income.

Sorry, but if your salary package is 31 million per year, you are basically dirt farming in Korea.

Another poster trying to make others feel bad for their supposed inadequacies. These 'how much do you earn'? threads really brings them out of the woodwork. What is it with you people? Enjoy your money, consider yourself fortunate and let others be. It isn't always necessary to put other people down to feel good about yourself.

for the reasons you mention, i'm trying to guide my sons towards a career in engineering.

Make sure he stays away from fields like industrial engineering. Currently, Mechanical Engineers are in high demand but you'll never go wrong in electrical, chemical, petroleum, or it engineering.

It really is much more stable but a bit more tough to get the degree.

Well, I guess i'll have a stab at this.

I make around 80 mil a year after taxes. This doesn't include the pension I'll receive when I leave this place.

I'm given a place to stay which would cost around 1200 a month to stay at.

I'm sent home to the states every 6 months for 2 weeks vacation , flights paid for.

I'm an engineer, under 35, North American so I guess almost fit your bill.

What kind of engineer are you? Did you get transfered to Korea from your office back home, or did you get hired directly in Korea?

I'm a Project Engineer (Chemical Engineer). I was hired directly by Korean company from the states. They used a head hunter which contacted me randomly. I interviewed, negotiated, and been here for 2 years now. Also, I was 26 when I got made the offer (28 now).

You get a kick out of coming on here and calling others liars. And, bashing those who like discussing making money. This is how you get your thrills. You have an old axe to grind with someone. If you don't like the topic, move along.

Not bashing those who like discussing money, though I do think it's a tad crass. I am quite happy to expose liars and bash people who try and make other people feel inadequate due to their financial circumstances. Does calling someone a dirt famer because they make less money than you make you feel like a big man?

You are crass, and more than a tad. You are calling someone a liar who you can't absolutely without a doubt prove is a liar. Does this make you feel like a big man? So what's your point? Why do you get your jollies coming out attacking the dude? Yeah, big man you are.

Ha ha, your defence of poor beleagued Fustiancorduroy is touching but I think most people on here would admit I've proved it as much as you're ever going to be able to on an anonymous message board. And yes it did give me some satisfaction to expose him.

Because like you he gets his jolies from trying to make people less fortunate than himself feel inadequate and I don't like that. Why don't you apologise for your comment about dirt farming and we can put all this behind us?

Why don't you apologize to Fustiancorduroy?

I don't like people like you calling others liars when they can't actually prove something. I like calling people like you out who try to make themselves feel like a big man by making others look bad.

Admit it. You can't 100% prove he wasn't telling the truth. That's right, you can't.

31 million per year could easily be a dirt farmer's salary in Korea. I'm sure there are several land farmers who have salaries in that range.

I am curious about the people that make over 100mil a year. What do they do to do it? Are they in education? Business? Other?

Most of the people (10 guys) I hang out with make over 100m so I'll share their demographics (which may or may not reflect why they are successful);

all men
all north american
all over 35 years old
all married to koreans who themselves make good money as tutors or teachers and thus boost the income and savings
all have lived in korea for over 10 years and thus have made a lot of contacts, saved their initial e-2 earnings, and invested in other things ranging from hagwons to pubs
all work very hard; well, as hard as one can work in korea. (ever pour cement for a job? now that is hard work!)
none of us brag about our incomes - it just is what it is and we are all thankful for it.

on a side note, does anyone remember the name of the poster who lives in states and drives multiple exotic cars from the proceeds raised by tutoring?

So are we talking family income here? I was under the impression it was personal income.

If so then our net income exceeds 100mil a year.

+1

This thread is really depressing. Even worse than I expected from the title.

Seeing as how this is an ESL board and all, maybe the high-rolling op can change the poll into one that reflects the demographics of that. Or not.
