| If the Koreans really want to have a NET in the public school sysytem, they need to hire more experence teachers or have some kind of traning program for the NET. |
That's not a fail-safe either, as the school can still restrict what this experienced teacher is able to do in class...as has been mentioned by previous posters. |

In its earlier days EPIK was open to hiring older more experienced teachers but ran into a spate of stubborn grumpy middle-agers bent on complaining. Schools, understandably, started preferring cheerful wide-eyed young'uns.
Harmony does matter. |

That's a pleasant fiction you just made up. Right, because young, inexperienced teachers never complain... what with learning to teach and adjusting to a new culture. |

Nope, true. Districts put in word to EPIK a few years ago & older hires basically stopped happening. Younger teachers present their own issues but are generally viewed as more compliant.
I have no particular stance on this, but I've watched the influx of predominantly 20-somethings into the program. Most of them are very bright & sincere. With shortcomings, sure, but not antagonistic.
Unlike a number of older foreign teachers I've known & that schools still talk about with a shudder. |
