Not really surprising at all since I heard this from my Korean wife that municipal offices usually use Russian or Belarusian female models in their ads. They look like ideal Aryans that Koreans seek and also act more Korean than E2 visa people here. My Arab point of view says that this is quite mind boggling. |

Makes sense, though your last comment I'm not sure I know what you mean. In what way? Is this a much different experience than teaching in the Middle East? (I think qualifications are more important there?) |

Anyways, I think the one way flight is a left voer from the flooded market. As it begins to clear out, Koreans will have to slowly readjust to us having more power to be picky again. But, they will do it if you accept it. Find the ASAP jobs, with your documents together where they need someone yesterday, have a great job photo, and either demand a two way flight or demand an extra 100,000 a month in salary (so you can save for the flight home).
Here's an example.

There's tons more of jobs. But, I'm willing to gamble if you're willing to get turned down for some and bide your time, you can push for more money or whatever. The market is clearing out again. It just hasn't set in yet to either side due it being so terrible over here for so long.

Some ASAP, some early May, etc. So push hard. |

..assuming those are actual positions.
Does it occur to anyone that many of these "openings" are simply phantom jobs? |

Could be. Tell the recruiter you want that job or a similiar one with similiar work conditions, pay, etc. If they offer you something different, bugger off and work with someone else. |

Telling that to a recruiter would enable one to witness the concept of "in one ear, out the other". Once a recruiter knows, that you know, he/she is trying to pull shenanigans, things generally do not become productive.
It is called "leading". They have all of these phantom options, in which quite a few will stand out from the others in some ways. Once the unsuspecting foreigner goes for the one he/she really wants (most likely a phantom job), they are provided with excuses as to why it is not available, but are then given another option or two...usually something crappy.
It is a game, and, the recruiters are competing over the same jobs.
And...they still have their little group in which they talk about the foreign teachers and who is on "the list". Also, some own/run multiple agencies.
Why do you think most of them don't post their contact information on Craigslist? |

| It's a teacher's market right now. You can say give me the flight money home, or else. That being said, the market regarding middle and high school has dropped considerably. Native speakers who don't speak Korean are not useful to those age groups because of not only their school tests but also the 수능 which lies in wait. I take that back. There is a listening part of the 수능 test, but they can always just listen to the mp3, instead of us. When Lee Myoung Bak tried to institute the NEAT test for university acceptance, foreigners became very important because it involved a speaking and writing test. Park Gun Hye got rid of it, so here we are. |

A teacher's market?
If that were the case, and it very well may be, recruiters and schools will not capitulate to that and still would present the narrative of an over-saturated market...
Remember, Korea is all about appearance, not reality. |

Modesty is the most important quality for any English teachers willing to work in the MENA region. As much as I like Korea, I'm sad that Koreans will most likely judge your looks first. People in the Middle East don't usually do this, but instead get all snobby in front of you. But one of the things I missed about being so far away from my kinsfolk is that I miss the typical snobbiness that I'm used to. |

Even the Slave Labor Program is now offering reimbursed airfare. Seriously, I hope nobody falls for this "reimbursed" airfare nonsense. Unless it is a public school, hell no.
And, what a horrid salary for those slave hours. If anyone knows about SLP, those teaching hours are not as they appear.
