I definitely agree with the diet-factor. I'm Korean, but grew up in the States eating a consistent Western diet of hormone-induced meat and meat by-products, and lesser consumption of vegetables compared to typical Korean consumption. And I'd say I've walked less during my lifetime than an average Korean-Korean individual of the same age has in his/her lifetime.

I wear size 34 pants--my relatives were telling me to lose weight! Man, I ain't fat, dammit! I'd hate to be a truly fat person in Korea--they must get so much sh-t from people.

my comments are based on my (ideal) weight of 55-56 kg. (125 -130 lbs).

If you take two groups of people, one western, one korean, and make them eat the same diet, you'll find a comparable spread of weight.
wrong. i always weigh more than i appear to, based on the fact that i am muscular. most korean girls weighing 130 lbs. look fat.

as stated above, i do not agree with your opinion here.

correct.

true story:
as i am still 30lbs (exactly 13kg.) heavier than i was before getting pregnant, i am rather self conscious and look at myself constantly. the last time i was at the sauna (comparing myself to others, as usual), i saw an ajuma that looked to be my size get on the scale. imagine my utter surprise and complete shock when her weight was 56kg, my weight when i am a slender size 6!! Shocked Confused

For this reason, I voted Natural Physiology.

this is more generational than cultural. get outside and kick a ball around!

If irregularities concerning 'eating' constitute the "diet" selection, then I'd agree with diet being the main reason why Koreans are so much slimmer.

The average Korean eats rice and kimchi more than anything else, but they also eat smaller portions of food. I know a lot of my female students say they hardly eat at all, so I'd say 'starvation' should be one of the choices. And yeah, very few korean girls have any kind of muscle tone, so that @ss that looks so good in the jeans flops out worse than Louie Anderson once you get them off. 90% of the time, I've been proven right.

The one exception to the rule was this one girl who must have set up shop in her gym, 'cause there was virtually zero body fat on her. Truly exceptional.

It ain't just in the ROK that fast food places are popping up like mad. When I was 6, we must have had about 2 Mickey D's locations in a city of 150,000. Now there must be 8. Don't even get me started about Pizza Hut.

Families in N. America are eating more processed food, snacks, etc, and soft drinks (probably the worst thing to take in), and they're cooking less. The refined sugar, the lax lifestyle, do the math.
