I went by there today in hopes of having the buffet but was told that the whole event was canceled.
Bummer...

| We knew it was on hiatus. Do you mean it'll never happen again? |

| maybe they lost money on it and just used the labor thing as an excuse. If not, then man, the management is dumb. |

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed that the OP and a few other posters were "in the know" and in direct contact with people in the management. So, is the management in fact Korean or not? The restaurant chain certainly isn't, and my hunch is that neither was this whole idea of serving a big Western breakfast essentially 'at cost'.

| Schlotsky's deli is going to offer a breakfast buffet with all the fixings for less than it charges for one of the mediocre sandwiches they serve? Hard to believe but if it's true, hell yes I'd go. |
The Dutchman's doubts were well founded and it was too good to be true, at least beyond its promising debut. Based on all the reviews here, the reason(s) it failed weren't bad quality, bad service, hopeless mismanagement, lousy location/time, regulatory hurdles, etc.
No, my guess is it was cost. Wasn't profitable. When your staff gripes about extra hours, you pay them overtime or throw more people on the job. If you can't afford to do this because you're paying too much for the food, supplies, equipment, etc., then your pricing is all screwy. Charge customers more and/or give them less. Why haven't Schlotsky's done that? |

Bump this up there...
After the initial 3 pages of enthusiastic responses to the OP, it's a bit odd that nobody's curious what happened exactly, or whether Schlotsky's will try it again... |

Sorry, JG - I have been up to my 'balls in extra work for end-of-year stuff at Y-K & Eastel. I know Tom, and want to find out what happened, as well.
It seems like it was more of a campsite breakfast sort of event - everyone got excited, and pulled it off with only minor hitches, but it seems like more effort than it was worth.
You may be right about the profit margin; also, winter is not the best of times to launch into something like this.
in any case, enough speculation on my part - I'll try to get a hold of Tom this weekend & see what happened.
Regards,
Glen |
